That the Agenda for November 7, 2012 be adopted with the following amendments; • Item 6.1 be deferred to December CARRIED R12-030 Minutes of October 3, 2012 Meeting Motion was moved and seconded ) That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of October 3, 2012 be adopted. CARRIED 4. Delegations & Presentations 5. 4.1 Tour of Alouette Heights Stephanie Ediger provided some background information on Alouette Heights. The Committee toured the Alouette Heights supportive housing project. Ms. Ediger advised that the "Tenants Association " want to build a community within the building and engage with neighbours and are therefore participating in "Adopt a Block". Correspondence 5.1 Alouette Heights Supportive Housing Official Opening -Staff Update Shawn Matthewson gave an overview of the opening of Alouette Heights. Please note that Cheryl Ashlie joined the meeting at 7:34 p.m. 5.2 Homelessness Action Week -Staff Update Candace Gordon provided a review of the Chili Harvest noting that 250 bowls were handed out that this was a very successful event. Shawn Matthewson provided an update on the Homelessness Action Week including a review of the following events (talent show, spa day, and a health day). 5.3 Business Engagement Process -Staff Update Shawn Matthewson distributed the Memorandum, presentation and staff summary of workshop recommendations regarding the Healthy, Safe and Vibrant Downtown process. Ms. Matthewson provided a review of the October 30, 2012 "Working Together for a Vibrant Downtown" meeting. Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Minutes Page2 of 5 Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes November 7, 2012 \ 112-030 Motion was moved and seconded That staff forward the Potential Action Outcomes of the Healthy, Safe and Vibrant Downtown document along with a staff report to Council for endorsement as the first step in the engagement process with downtown businesses. CARRIED 5.4 FASO Awareness Day -Save the Date Shawn Matthewson advised that on November 20th (National Day of the Child) there will be an unveiling of the new Maple Ridge Business License Bylaw at the Greg Moore Youth Centre between 11-ipm. Ms. Matthewson reviewed the bylaw which will require businesses who serve liquor to post warnings (about the effects of drinking) in every washroom , on menus and behind bars. Shawn Matthewson noted that there are three champions to launch this campaign , Bella Vita, Kingfisher Pub, and the Maple Ridge Golf Course. 5.5 Request for information on Anti-Bullying Programs in School District 42 Shawn Matthewson advised the Committee that a review of the programs that are available within the School District will take place and more information will be provided at the next meeting. 5.6 Harm Reduction Funding Changes by the Federal Government Shawn Matthewson provided an update on the Harm Reduction Funding Changes made by the Federal Government noting that the Substance Misuse Prevention Committee has been looking at the changes; drug prevention policies; prevention of harm reduction to a more justice / law enforcement area. Ms. Matthewson noted that the 1st phase of funding is coming to an end soon and the committee is worried that the funds around treatment and education (which are the prevention) will be included in the funding cuts. Shawn Matthewson reviewed the funding changes with the Committee. 6. Unfinished Business 6.1 Business Plan and Budget Review -deferred 6.2 Review of Future Presentation to Committee Shawn Matthewson reviewed the "Proposed Delegation List for Consideration for 2013" with the Committee. Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Minutes Page 3 of 5 ) Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes November 7, 2012 Candace Gordon noted that the Food Bank Count from the Canada National Association noted that it shows staggering increases in food bank uses. Ms. Gordon noted that it would be useful to have the Food Bank come and do a presentation. 7. Committee Reports 7.1 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie Community Network Update Candace Gordon provided an update on the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie including a review of the Community Resource Fair which was held on October 20th and was a successful event. lneke Boekhorst noted that this was a great event but that the committee will be looking for ways to improve the marketing of this event next year. Candace Gordon provided an update on the Recycling Board, noting that Community Living BC gave a presentation on their job program. 7.2 Port Haney Neighbourhood Change Initiative Update 7.3 Shawn Matthewson provided an update on the Port Haney Neighbourhood Change Initiative. Haney Farmers Market Candace Gordon provided an update on the Haney Farmer's Market noting that the last market is December 1, 2012 8. Roundtable Treena Innes provided an update on the Nurse Practioner program which received funding for 3 years and will be located at the Salvation Army. Ms. Innes also reported that the Ridge Meadows Division of Family Practice also received a 6 month extension with 50% funding. S/Sgt. Andrew Martin reported that he escorted Mayor Daykin, Jim Rule, Paul Gill and the Joint Police Liaison Committee to the RCMP Cadet graduation in Regina. lneke Boekhorst reported that there are several Christmas events going on and also noted that the Business Watch program is doing very well and it's great. Shawn Matthewson reported that the End Homelessness Workshop will be held in the Fraser room on November 14 between 10-3pm. 9.
