3. Approval of the March 6, 2013 Meeting Minutes
R13-017 Motion was moved and seconded
• That the margin date be changed from February 6, 2013 to March 6, 2013 and that the
minutes of the Regular Meeting of March ·6, 2013 as amended be adopted.

4.1 EDI and Early Childhood Development Committee Initiatives -Deferred
5. New Business
5.1 Healthy Families BC Report
Arlana Kuzyck distributed Healthy Families BC information to the Committee. Ms.
Kuzyck gave an overview of the initiatives taken to collaborate with local
municipalities to form and implement strategies encouraging well being and healthy
lifestyles in each community. Ms. Kuzyck gave an overview of changes to various
Healthy Living grants.
Note: Rajinder Katra entered the meeting at 7:09pm.
5.2 Membership Review
Shawn Matthewson distributed a membership list to the Committee and reviewed the
list of representatives. The Committee also discussed the possibility of adding a
representative from the Fire Department and multicultural communities. The
committee recommended not removing the post-secondary representative.
Note: it was the consensus of the Committee to discuss a topic not related to the
item at hand.
Action Item: Discuss with staff at the next meeting, inviting a Post Secondary
Institution to make a presentation regarding setting up programs in Maple Ridge.
5.3 Child Poverty Presentation at St. Paul's Lutheran Church -Bob Goos
Bob Goos invited the Committee to an event . on April 13, 2013 at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Maple Ridge. featuring Dr. Paul Kershaw speaking on poverty
and the struggles of a generation squeezed for time and resources. For more

5.4 FCM Resolutions Timelines and Process

Shawn Matthewson gave an overview to the Committee of the timeline and process
of compiling and drafting Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) resolutions.
Action Item: the Committee will compi le and discuss draft FCM resolutions at the
June meeting.
5.5 Review of UBCM Resolutions
Councillor Bob Masse and Councillor Cheryl Ashlie gave an overview of UBCM
resolutions being submitted. One resolution is to reinstate Riverview Hospital in
Coquitlam as a provincial centre of excellence for mental health care.
The Committee made a suggestion to change some of the language of the resolution.
Councillor Bob Masse and Councillor Cheryl Ashlie also gave an update on the
Seniors' Advocate Office UBCM resolution.
6. Unfinished Business
6.1 Nurse Practitioner Application for the Frail Elderly
Shawn Matthewson gave an overview of the Nurse Practitioner Application for the
Frail Elderly. Ms. Matthewson explained a nurse practitioner has been recruited to
work with clients who are homeless or have substance misuse or mental health
issues. They will be stationed at the Caring Place.
6.2 Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness Proposed Structure Changes
Shawn Matthewson advised the Committee that proposed structure changes did
come forward by the Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness. The
Community Network has made recommendations for representation on the
Constituency table. The District of Maple Ridge will continue to be a member of the
larger table.
6.2 Downtown Business Engagement Process Update
Shawn Matthewson gave an overview of the first Downtown Business Engagement
meeting and explained that there will be a presentation at the next meeting.
6.3 Request for Fraser Health representation at meeting with MP
Shawn Matthewson explained that she sent the letter requesting a Fraser Health
representative attend the bi-annual meeting between the Substance Misuse
Prevention Committee and Housing Planning Table and Randy Kamp. Ms.
Matthewson has not heard back yet. Ms. Matthewson also gave an overview of topics
for the meeting with Mr.Kamp.
6.4 Update regarding the letter of support for the position outlined by the Regional
Senior's Planning Table

Shawn Matthewson drafted a letter regarding support of this position that will go to
Council with a staff report in late April.
7. Committee Reports
7.1 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie Community Network Update
Candace Gordon provided an update on the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie
Community Network. Ms. Gordon explained that the Community Foundation and
Network Community Chest Proposal is almost complete.
The annual spring workshop for all the committee chairs and coordinators is coming
up and they will work on a collaboration document to guide the process of working
together to apply for funding.
7.2 Port Haney Neighborhood Change Initiative Update
Shawn Matthewson reported the Port Haney Neighborhood Change Initiative is
having a neighbourhood walk on Saturday April 27, 2013 and an annual clean up
project is coming up.
8. Roundtable
Arlana Kuzyk -distributed a brochure to the Committee and reported that the
informed dining program is expanding to include many new restaurants.
Ms. Kuzyk reported that a smoke free property Fraser Health policy was launched at
Surrey Memorial Hospital. The policy has increased penalties for infractions.
Rajinder Ka Ira reported that the University of Victoria psychology department is
researching the topic of multiculturalism and poverty and we may want to include this
research into discussion.
Steven Lamothe -reported that the Ministry of Housing and Social Development has
a program to support people with disabilities starting up businesses.
Candace Gordon -reported she has received a grant to do some food education
workshops and that the Saturday night Community Suppers run by the St. Andrews
Parish have moved to the Golden Ears United Church.
Bob Goos -reported Ridge Meadows Senior Society has received a grant to renovate
the front of their building and that St. Paul's church is providing a hot lunch program
He is also looking into starting a program to enable seniors to access meals without
having to wait in line at the Friends in Need Food Bank.
