REGULAR MEETING
The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Social Planning Advisory Committee, held in the Blaney
Room, at Maple Ridge Municipal Hall on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 7:07 pm.

That the Agenda of the Regular Meeting of July 3, 2013 be adopted with the deferral of the

Approval of the June 5, 2013 Meeting Minutes
It was moved and seconded

That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of June 5, 2013 be adopted with the following
correction:
• Replace Fraser Heights with Alouette Heights in Sheila McLaughlin's roundtable.
• CARRIED
4. Summer Cheer
Bob Goos led the committee recalling Canadian songs.
5. New Business
5.1 Housing Action Plan Request for Proposal
Sue Wheeler gave an overview of the Housing Action Plan which included the
following goals and objectives;
• Assessing local housing market conditions.
• Identifying housing priorities.
• Encouraging the supply of new rental housing.
• Develop local partnerships and work with other levels of government to secure
affordable housing.
• Identify short, medium and long-term actions to meet housing needs across the
housing continuum.
The timeline for an RFP being sent out for the Housing Action Plan will be mid July,
with interviews commencing in August and consultants beginning work in September.
July 22, 2013 a report will be issued to council on the Housing Action Plan updates.

That the Housing Action Plan Update be received by the Social Planning Advisory
• Committee and forwarded to Maple Ridge Council.

5.2 RSCH Terms of Reference for the Homeless Count and a New Regional Homeless
Plan
Sue Wheeler gave an overview of Shawn Mathewson's role on the advisory
committee and the upcoming homeless count. Ms. Wheeler indicated this will be the
fourth annual homeless count within our community and will have a new structure in
place including a coordinator who will be assigned to our community for this count.
Sue gave an overview of the Terms of Reference for a new Metro Vancouver Regional
Homelessness Plan, sent out electronically in the agenda package.

5.5 Canada Day Report
Sue Wheeler gave an overview of the Canada Day Event in Maple Ridge including
photos from the day. Ms. Wheeler reported that 32 volunteers attended and the
Haney Farmer's Market had record sales.
6 Unfinished Business
6.1 FCM Resolutions -Deferred
6.2 Vibrant Downtown Task Force Update
Arlana Kuzyk gave an update on the walking tour which recently took place with the
Vibrant Downtown Task Force Group. The walking tour included a youth group which
were very helpful in pointing out problem areas where youth congregate.
The walking group identified "problem" areas which will be complied in a report and
sent to the Vibrant Downtown Task Force before being forwarded on to the SPAC
committee.
Please note the committee members chose to discuss other topics at this time.
6.3 Membership Review with Committee Recommendations
Sue Wheeler gave an update on last month's recommendations for SPAC
membership and informed committee members this will be on the July 8 council
meeting.
7 Committee Reports
7.1 Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows-Katzie Community Network Update -Nil
8 Roundtable
Bob Masse reported he recently attended the RCMP Auxiliary Graduate event.
Arlana Kuzyk reported that Fraser Health has launched a new survey. Data available after the
survey will benefit neighbourhoods and include a population health report.
John Heffernan reported a busy summer with Ridge Meadows Association for Community
Living with all their camps full and having wait lists.
Treena Innes reported on a new initiative coming soon regarding family doctors called "A GP
for Me".
