Welcomes and introductions were made. 2. Approval of the February 5, 2014 Agenda R14-006 It was moved and seconded Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Minutes Page 1 of 3 ) Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes February 5, 2014 3. R14-007 That the Agenda of the Regular Meeting of February 5, 2014 be adopted with the following amendments; • Item 5.2 be deferred • Item 6.1 be moved before item 5.1 Approval of the January 8, 2014 Meeting Minutes It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of January 8, 2014 be adopted. CARRIED CARRIED 4. Presentations and Delegations R14-008 4.1 Alouette Home Start Society Stephanie Ediger gave a presentation to SPAC on funding issues at Alouette Home Start which impacts the Iron Horse Youth Safe House. AHSS was formed in 2005, the Iron Horse Youth Safe House was their first project, later followed by a community outreach program, supportive housing (Alouette Heights) and Route 29 (a youth transitional house). It was moved and seconded That a letter be sent to the Metro Vancouver Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness and MP Randy Kamp, to request information regarding the status of current and transitional Homelessness Partnership Strategy (HPS) funding, and to request that Alouette Home Start Society be guaranteed six months transitional funding for the Iron Horse Youth Safe House. CARRIED Please note item 6.1 will be moved to before item 5.1. 6.1 Housing Action Plan Update Siobhan Murphy gave a brief update on the consultation program and situational report currently underway. The Situational report is available online at www.mapleridge.ca, Workshops are currently underway with the consultant, Ms. Murphy suggested all committee members read through the situational report on line and encourage any of their clientele to fill out the questionnaire online. 5. New Business 5.1 Position of Committee Chair Shawn Matthewson discussed the role of the chair noting that it is typically filled by a community at large member. With the addition of new members, March would be the appropriate month to have nominations made for Chair and Vice-chair. The Chair's position is filled on yearly basis. 5.2 Proposed Budget 2014 -Deferred 5.3 2014 Homeless Count Shawn Matthewson reported that it's been 3 years since the last homeless count and our local count covers Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows jointly. The Regional Steering Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Minutes Page 2 of 4 ) Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes February 5, 2014 committee hired local coordinators for each city to coordinate the count, this year's count will happen on March 11 & 12. 5.4 Homelessness Partnership Strategy Funding Update Shawn Matthewson updated that the official applications for funding have not yet been sent out. The RSCH is still awaiting information from Service Canada. Please note: committee members chose to discuss another topic at this time. 5.5 Community Development Training Shawn Matthewson mentioned a community developer, Dan Duncan is hosting a workshop on February 13 in Council Chambers. Shawn noted this workshop is open to all community service organizations and invited all SPAC members to attend. 6 Unfinished Business 7. 6.1 Housing Action Plan Update Moved above item 5.1. 6.2 Additional Funding for CN Coordinator Shawn Matthewson received a request from the Community Network to help with and additional funding request this year since Fraser Health is no longer in the position to support this group. This request has been forwarded to the District's community granting process. Roundtable Arlana Kuzyk reported that the Healthy Communities Symposium on February 19 is still open for registration and that the myhealthmycommunity survey will end on March 31. Ms. Kuzyk stated that it appears there is no community which will attain the 2% participation necessary to receive the survey results. Annette Morgan reported that the most recently Seniors Network meeting occurred last week where United Way gave a presentation. Ms. Morgan stated that they are well underway with planning Seniors Week which happens May 31-June 3. Ms. Morgan commented that seniors are reporting that they are still be released from emergency visits very late at night and put into taxi's to go home which they find unacceptable. Mike Murray reported that data has been collected around facilities planning and should be released by the end of this month. Mr. Murray stated that graduation completion rates were way up this year with some of the highest in the Province including aboriginal youth . Corporal Ala nna Dunlop reported that on March 13 there wi ll be a youth services forum with a panel of 5 members to discuss what the challenges are that you are facing. Doors open at 1:45pm in Council Chambers. Avexnim Cojti stated that the Welcome Communities project is trying to build up the community to be able to accept more immigrants into our community and there is an upcoming event on February 19 at the ACT at 5:00 pm. Ms. Gordon stated that Golden Ears FEAST is busy doing action planning for the year and reviewing the successes of last year. Several new projects are under way including; "More Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Minutes Page 3 of 4 ) Social Planning Advisory Committee Regular Meeting Minutes February 5, 2014 peas please", a new program where individuals go to homes to help plant peas with children. Similarly there is a corn growing program too. Steven Lamothe reported that graduation rates are going up, and they are collecting suits and dresses for graduates. The project is called the "Royalty Project". Mr. Lamothe is taking any donations you have available. Councillor Bob Masse reported that the newly formed post-secondary task force is an exciting project as they are looking at a composite model for post-secondary education in Maple Ridge. A composite model is where numerous post-secondary institutions work together on one campus and bring their various programs together. Councillor Masse also mentioned an upcoming networking workshop called Intersections being hosted by the AAC and CHC committees which will be inviting all committees of council and other agencies through the community for an opportunity to network and share resources. More information will be available at next month's meeting. Shawn Matthewson reported that the Housing Planning Table is doing a landlords workshop on Februai-y 12 from 9:00 am-3:00 pm 8.
