AGENDA ADOPTION R15-007 It was moved and seconded That the Agenda for the Regular Meeting of February 3, 2015 be adopted with the following additions: 3. R15-008 Item 7.3 Local Voices Item 8.2.2 Heritage Week CARRIED MINUTE ADOPTION It was moved and seconded That the Minutes of the January 6, 2015 Regular Meeting be adopted. DELEGATIONS 4.1 Matthew Shields, Maple Ridge Museum Matthew Shields made a presentation on the Heritage BC conference he attended during September 2014 called Building Bridges. The conference addressed historical societies and their interests, challenges and approaches to heritage conservation. Mr. Shields found the conference very informative. 5. FINANCE R15-009 The Chair reviewed the current budget. The Staff Liaison and Commission Chair will be meeting with Catherine Nolan, Manager of Accounting to review the budget details. Steve Ranta and Councillor Speirs volunteered to sit in at the meeting. It was moved and seconded That the budget be adopted. CARRIED 6. CORRESPONDENCE A letter to Kanaka Fruit Tree Project stating the Commission's interest in participating in the endeavour is in the works. 7. NEW & UNFINISHED BUSINESS 7.1 Events Calendar The Intersections event has been postponed. The Agriculture Committee is unable to cohost at this time. The event may be held later in the Spring. A list of Commission sub-committee members was distributed. The Workshop put on by Eli Mina has been postponed. All members have expressed interest in going if possible. 7 .2 CHC Presentation to Council The Commission will go before Council on March 24, 2015 for the semi-annual presentation. 7.3 Local Voices The first Local Voices presentation was well received. The next Local Voices will occur on February 25th, and will have a Heritage theme. 8. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS 8.1 Communications Sub-committee 8.1.1 Heritage Here Newsletter -Brenda Smith The Heritage Here newsletter will be printed and distributed tomorrow. The idea of a button on the website that would allow people to subscribe to the newsletter was raised. Possible content for the next newsletter was Community Heritage Commission Regular Meeting Page 2 of 4 Community Heritage Commission Meeting Minutes -Tuesday, February 3, 2015 discussed including Heritage Awards, Webinar, Walking Tour, Update for Hammond. 8.2 Recognitions Sub-committee 8.2.1 Marker Inventory The next step for this project is the database design (estimated to cost $500). This plan is on hold until the 2015 Commission budget is confirmed. 8.2.2 Heritage Week The following Heritage Week events will be featured in the "Maple Ridge This Month " section of the local newspaper: -Webinar "Using Heritage to Build Dynamic Downtowns" on February 18 -The Heritage Awards at St Andrew's Church on February 19 -Walking Tours of Downtown on February 21 8.2.3 Heritage Awards Volunteers are needed for Awards night set up and clean up beginning at 6 pm at St. Andrew's Church. The Historical Society has ordered three banners to promote the Historical Society, Museum and Family History group and will be displayed that night. The Mayor has been invited to attend the awards. 8.3 Project Sub-committee 8.3.1 Digitization The contract was not fulfilled. Funds for this project are still set aside. 8.4 Dynamic Downtowns Webinar on February 18, 2015. Note: Councillor Speirs and Faye Isaac left the meeting at approximately 8:30 pm. 9. LIAISON UPDATES 9.1 BC Historical Federation The current issue of British Columbia History was brought in. The BC Historical Federation Conference begins May 21, 2015 and will be held in Quesnel with many interesting activities provided. Two copies of Looking Back book by Sheila Nichols will be handed to the Staff Liaison at the Heritage Awards along with an invoice. 9.2 Heritage BC/BC Heritage Branch The next Heritage B.C. conference is to be held in Rossland. 9.3 Maple Ridge Historical Society -Faye Isaac MRHS wi ll be hosting wal king tours of downtown on February 21st at 11 am and 2 pm . The Railway Society will host their Open House from 1 -4 pm on February 22nd. Local Voices next presentation will be February 25th . March 19th Historical Society will have their Annual General Meeting and a potluck Dinner on March 19th . The Heritage tea is on April 11th at 1 pm. ROUNDTABLE Eric Phillips -brought up the heritage sign at Tolmie Park looks like it needs to be replaced. Discussion ensued. It is believed that it is on the repair list. On March 2 the Staff Liaison will present the Hammond Area Plan to Council workshop. 11.
