COUNCIL MEETING
October 14, 2008
The Minutes of the Municipal Council Meeting held on October 14, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
in the Council Chamber of the Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple Ridge,
British Columbia for the purpose of transacting regular Municipal business.

Staff report dated October 1, 2008 recommending final reading
To rezone from RS-1 (One Family Urban Residential) to C-2 (Community
Commercial) to permit the construction of a two storey commercial
building.

Staff report dated September 25, 2008 recommending that the Corporate
Officer be authorized to sign and seal DVP/109/07 to vary lot depth,
building height and minimum drive aisle width and further that the
Corporate Officer be authorized to sign and seal DP/109/07 in support of a
two storey commercial building.
The Manager of Legislation Services reported that e-mails were received
from Cheryl and Jeff Dasen expressing concerns and asking questions
about this permit.

1131 2009 Permissive Tax Exemptions
Staff report dated September 22, 2007 recommending that Maple Ridge
Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 6618-2008 be given first, second and third
readings.
The Manager of Legislative Services reported that the bylaw has been
amended since the October 6, 2008 Committee of the Whole Meeting to
include Katie's Place Animal Shelter and to correctly list the name of the
street as Jackson Road.
Note: Councillor Daykin excused himself as he is on the Board of one of the
organizations listed in the 2009 Permissive Tax Exemptions.

1151 Cemetery Fees and Charges Amending Bylaw
Staff report dated September 11, 2008 recommending that Maple Ridge
Cemetery Bylaw No. 6605-2008 be given first, second and third readings
and that "pre need requests" for plots not be processed and burial plots be
provided on an "at need basis" until the bylaw has been fully implemented.

1201 Award of Contract -Brown Avenue Extension Phase 1
Staff report dated October 7, 2008 recommending that Tender RFT-OP08-
07 4 for the installation of off site servicing and road works for Brown
Avenue from 227 Street East past the proposed Fire Hall exit be awarded
to Chet Construction Ltd. and that the Corporate Officer be authorized to
execute the contract.

That Tender RFT-OP08-07 4 be awarded to Chet Construction
Ltd. in the amount of $335,580 inclusive of GST; and further

1400 MAYOR'S REPORT
Mayor Robson
CARRIED
Mayor Robson attended a Translink Meeting hosting Lower Mainland
Mayors. He spoke to the Hope for Freedom Society and advised that he
has been requested to provide a letter of support for that society.
1500 COUNCILLORS' REPORTS
Councillor King
Councillor King attended the Arts Council Annual General Meeting, the
Farmer's Market and the open house at the Fire Hall. She also attended a
Metro Vancouver Agriculture Committee meeting.
Councillor Stewart
Councillor Stewart attended an Economic Development workshop, a Metro
Vancouver Labour Relations Bureau meeting and Metro Vancouver Board
meeting. He spoke to a number of upcoming events which included an
open house at the Maple Ridge Lapidary Club on October 18, the Kidney
Foundation Roundup on October 16 and the Chamber of Commerce
business awards to be held on October 22.

Councillor Hogarth
Councillor Hogarth attended the Union of British Columbia Municipalities
Conference, the Economic Development workshop and participated in the
local Real Estate Board Division of Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Thanksgiving
Dinner.
Councillor Dueck
Councillor Dueck attended the Economic Development workshop, Fire
Department open house and the Social Planning Advisory Committee
business planning meeting.
Councillor Daykin
Councillor Daykin attended the Parks and Leisure Services Commission
business planning meeting and the Economic Development workshop. He
advised that October is Library Month. He also reminded all that October
19 to 25 is Waste Reduction Week and that October 19 is the Return of the
Salmon event held at Kanaka Creek.

QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
Peter Tam
Mr. Tam advised that the special Farmer's Market events will be held on
November 15 and December 6
Jeff Dasen
Mr. Dasen spoke to DVP/109/07. He expressed concern with the
proposed barrier between his property and the proposed development and
also expressed concern with the effect of the development on the existing
trees which border his property and the development.
The Manager of Development and Environmental Services offered to meet
with Mr. Dasen to discuss the issue of trees and the size of the proposed
barrier.
