in the Council Chamber of the Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple Ridge,

701 The Royal Canadian Legion, Maple Ridge Branch 88 Presentation of the
First Poppies of the Legion's Annual Poppy Campaign
-Lynda Henry, President
-Jim MacDonald, First Vice President
Lynda Henry, President of the Royal Canadian Legion spoke to the Legion's
Annual Poppy Campaign and presented the first symbolic poppy of the
season to the Mayor. Jim MacDonald distributed poppies to all Council
members.
702 Maple Ridge Recycling Society Presentation -"Random Acts of Recycling"
-Dan Mikolay, Education Manager and Students from Maple Ridge
Secondary School
Julie Kohen gave a presentation on the value of recycling and introduced
Jacob Emerson. Mr. Emerson then gave a PowerPoint presentation on the
Waste Reduction Program at Maple Ridge Secondary School and shared
the winning video of the Random Acts of Recycling Contest created by
Andrea Mah and Maddi Richardson.
703 South Asian Cultural Society
-Dr. Biju Mathew
Dr. Mathew provided a brief history of the South Asian Cultural Society and
advised Council that on March 6, 2010 the Society will host its 2nd Annual
fundraiser to help raise funds for the Maple Ridge Hospital Foundation. Dr.
Mathew also noted that part of the funds raised this year will be directed to
the Cythera Transition House.

Staff report dated October 7, 2009 recommending that the September 15,

To rezone from CD-3-98 (Comprehensive Development) & A-2 (Upland
Agricultural) to R-1 (Residential District), RM-1 (Townhouse Residential),
P-1 (Park & School), R-3 (Special Amenity Residential District), and RST-
SV (Street Townhouse-Silver Valley) and to amend text to provide a new
Street Townhouse Residential Zone, RST -SV (Street Townhouse-Silver
Valley) and provide changes to density to permit the development of
approximately 145 townhouse units, 39 single family lots, and 29 street
townhouse units, schooljpark site and Neighbourhood Park.

iii. Finalization of a purchasing agreement with the District of
Maple Ridge for portions of the unconstructed road right

mutually agreeable program that addresses the following:
1. funding for all necessary improvements required to the
Albion Dyking District and Maple Ridge Road 13 Dyking
District to bring them to current flood protection standards.
2. funding for ongoing annual maintenance costs to protect
these improvements.
3. enabling legislation that will provide legal access for
construction and maintenance to those portions of the
Albion Dyke currently located on private property
and all to be established with the Province before the District
agrees to the transfer of responsibility of these Provincial
Improvement Areas.

Staff report dated October 9, 2009 recommending the continuation of the
conversion to flat cut-off lenses for municipally installed lighting fixtures
and consideration of the inclusion of light pollution control standards in
signage and servicing bylaws.

Staff report dated October 5, 2009 providing information regarding the
request received from the Royal Canadian Legion -Maple Ridge Branch
#88 to use municipal streets for a parade on Wednesday, November 11,
2009.

MAYOR'S REPORT
Mayor Daykin spoke to how funding cuts have affected the Youth Justice
group and noted that funding was received from MLA, Marc Dalton, that will
see the group function into the first quarter of 2010.
Mayor Daykin attended the Pitt River Bridge ribbon cutting along with
Councillor Speirs and Councillor Ashlie.
The Mayor advised that the Economic Summit will be held on Thursday,
October 29, 2009 at The Act.
COUNCILLORS' REPORTS
Councillor King
Councillor King advised that Maple Ridge Council has been challenged by
Pitt Meadows Council to ride their bike to Council meetings during the week
of November 2-8, 2009 for Bike to Work Week. She also advised that the
Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition (VACC) will be hosting a Bike Station for
Bike to Work Week on November 5, 2009 at the south end of the Golden
Ears Bridge.
Councillor King attended the KEEPS Salmon return event, the Stephen
Lewis Foundation Grandmother's for Africa event, the Golden Harvest Event
and the Laity Pumpkin Patch , along with several other events.
Councillor Morden
Councillor Morden attended a field dedication for Norm and Betty Pelton at
the UBC Research Forest, the Golden Harvest Event and the Maple Ridge
Hospital Gala fundraising event. He participated in a ride-along in RCMP Air
One, toured the North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association facility and
attended a Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Councillor Speirs
Councillor Speirs attended the Haney Farmer's Market, the Maple Ridge
Hospital Gala, a Municipal Insurance Association Annual General Meeting,
a Joint Parks and Recreation Services Commission meeting with the
Township of Langley, a workshop with the Katzie and a tour of the North
Fraser Therapeutic Association facility.
Councillor Speirs also noted that on Saturday, October 31, 2009 the Extra
Foods workers will be holding a rally.

Councillor Hogarth
Councillor Hogarth advised that on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 there will
be a Heritage Context Study held in Council Chambers.
Councillor Hogarth attended the United Way Hot Dog Sale at Municipal Hall,
a tour of the North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association facility, the
Senior's Networking Conference and the Golden Harvest event. He also
attended meetings of the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility
Issues and the Economic Advisory Commission.
Councillor Dueck
Councillor Dueck attended the Public Art Steering Committee meeting.
Councillor Ashlie
Councillor Ashlie attended the Golden Harvest event, the 10 year
celebration for the Seniors' Centre, the North Fraser Therapeutic Riding
Association facility tour, the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) Fall
Fair and Lt-General Romeo Dallaire's speaking engagement at The Act.
