COUNCIL WORKSHOP
November 4, 2013
The Minutes of the Municipal Council Workshop held on November 4, 2013 at
9:00 a.m. in the Blaney Room of the Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple
Ridge, British Columbia for the purpose of transacting regular Municipal business.

3. PRESENTATIONS AT THE REQUEST OF COUNCIL Nil
4. UNFINISHED AND NEW BUS/NESS
4.1 Overhead Power Lines
Presentation by the Manager of Infrastructure Development
The General Manager of Public Works and Development advised on the
variance permits allowing overhead wiring to remain in place in conjunction
with Council policy.
The Manager of Infrastructure Development gave a PowerPoint presentation
providing background on the District's bylaws, policies and practices
regulating the conversion of overhead wiring. He provided information on the
types of overhead utilities in various neighbourhoods, highlighted Council
Policy 9.05, the concerns of service providers and the cost implications of
placing all wiring underground.

That staff explore cash in lieu payments for standard single
phase wiring costs to be collected and held in a fund to
advance technology and/or utility funding within the District of
Maple Ridge.

4.2 Community Sport Strategy
Presentation by the Recreation Manager, Health and Fitness
The Recreation Manager, Health and Wellness gave a PowerPoint
presentation providing a broad perspective on the role recreation plays in a
healthy community. She outlined the role of recreation in the community,
provided examples of current and future recreation programming and spoke
to the current process of developing a sport strategy and policy.

4.3 True North Fraser Signage Program
Staff report dated November 4, 2013 recommending that the True North
Fraser Signage program be endorsed and that other agencies be requested to
support updating of the Provincial Service and Attraction Sign Manual to
better reflect current provincial initiatives as related to value added
agricultural enterprises.
The Planner reviewed the report. She highlighted the collaboration between
the municipality and other agencies as a result of the project, outlined what
has been done to move the project forward and spoke to the signage project.
She advised that the project will require endorsement from senior agencies.
The Manager, Strategic Economic Initiatives presented the new website for
truenorthfraser.com. She advised on the model of collaboration with other
areas in the Province.

That the report dated November 4, 2013 titled "True North
Fraser Signage Program" be forwarded to the Maple Ridge
Agricultural Advisory Committee for discussion and comment.

4.4 2014 Council Meeting Schedule
Staff report dated November 4, 2013 recommending that the 2014 Council
Meeting scheduled be adopted.
The Manager of Legislative Services reviewed the report.
