ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA The agenda was amended to include: 4.1 Ports Amalgamation Update - Councillor Hogarth 2, MINUTES R/07-088 Minutes February 12,2007 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Council \ilorkshop Meeting of X'ebruary 1212007 be adopted as circulated. CARzuED Council Workshop Minutes February 19,200'7 Page2 of 4 3, PRESENTATIONS AT THE REQAEST OF COUNCIL 3.1 Long Term Sustainable Vision for Maple Ridge - Charles Holmes, Ester Speck Charles Holmes facilitated a discussion on the long term sustainable vision for Maple Ridge. Ester Speck gave a presentation on what the Village of V/histler was doing in terms of sustainability' R/07-089 Sustainable Vision For Maple Ridge It was moved and seconded That staff be directed to bring back a report on the inclusion of sustainabilify into the District's Strategic Plan Update at a review to be held in April 2007, based on the discussion at the workshop of February 19,2007 facilitated by charles Holmes. CARRIED Note: The meeting recessed ú12:17 p.m and reconvened at 12:53 p.m. Chamber of Commerce - Jeff Carpenter, President; Dale Nelson, Executive Director; and Reg Mess, President-Elect Jeff Carpenter, President of the Chamber of Commerce gave an update of the initiatives and projects of the Chamber. 4. UNFINISHED AND NEW BUSINESS 4.r Amalgamation of Port Authorities Councillor Hogarth gave an overview of a meeting regarding the Port Amalgamation hetd on February 16,2007. A report titled Port Amalgamation - Meeting February t6,2007 was circulated at the meeting. It was agreed by council that councillor Hogarth would be council's representative on the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Tack Force with Councillor Stewart as the alternate. . \ i..i - Council Workshop Minutes February 19,2007 Page3 of4 5. CORRESPONDENCE 5.1 Resolution from City of North Vancouver - Smoking at Bus Stops Ban Letter dated February 7,2007 from Sandra E. Dowey, City Clerk, City of North Vancouver regarding aban on smoking at bus stops. ) R/07-090 Ban on Smoking at Bus Stops 5.2 R/07-091 Env Assess Office Indication of Interest Environmental Assessment Offïce, Interior to Lower Mainland Transmission Reinforcement Project Letter dated February 6,2007 from Joan Hesketh, Associate Deputy Minister, Environmental Assessment Office requesting an indication of interest by the District of Maple Ridge for participation in the environmental assessment process for the project proposed by the British Columbia Transmission Corporation. It was moved and seconded That the letter from Sandra E. Dowey, City Clerk, City of North Vancouver dated February 712007 regarding a ban on smoking at bus stops received and that no further action to taken. CARzuED It was moved and seconded That the letter from Joan Hesketh, Associate Deputy Minister, Environmental Assessment OffÏce regarding the project proposed by the British Columbia Transmission Corporation be received and that Rod Stott, Environmental Planner, participate in the review of this project by the Environmental Assessment Office as a representative for the District of Maple Ridge. CARzuED Council V/orkshop Minutes February 19,2007 Page 4 of4 5.3 Canadian Federation of Independent Business, Business Properfy Tax Rates Letter dated February 7,2007 from Liv Fredricksen, Policy Analyst, BC & Yukon and Laura Jones, Vice President, BC & Yukon regarding the results of a Canadian Federation of Independent Business report on local business property taxes. The General Manager of Corporate and Financial Services gave a PowerPoint presentation on types of taxation and examples of the tax policies in the District of Maple Ridge compared to other cities throughout the Lower Mainland. N07-092 Business Property Tax Rates It was moved and seconded That the letter from Liv Fredricksen, Policy Analyst, BC & Yukon and Laura Jones, Vice President, BC & Yukon regarding the results of a Canadian Federation of Independent Business report on local business property taxes be received and that no further action be taken.
