Regular Meeting Minutes -Mary 13, 2014
Brody Patterson and Claire Oneil from Laity View Elementary sent an email request for
financial assistance on a proposed Art Wall for Memorial Peace Park around the
bandstand area to decrease vandalism and graffiti. The Committee discussed and
instructed Ms. Chui to respond appropriately and include the following points:
• Students are welcome to access the community public art community grant program
through an application process and to involve an experienced artist in the project.
• Advise to change the timeline to be longer as not realistic to encompass an
engagement process and to build partners/support.
• Consider a project closer to school grounds or at the school and involve teachers,
principal, parents and businesses in the project.
Ms. Chui shared information from Youth Services and Parks that there are currently
minimal graffiti issues in the Park area under consideration as there is a good program
in place along with being in a high pedestrian traffic area.
