Artist Curator, Maple Ridge Art Gallery Community Member Councillor, District of Maple Ridge Liaison DISmlCT OF MAPLE RIDGE STAFF PRESENT: Yvonne Chui REGRETS: Craig Redmond (on leave) Joanne Georgelin GUEST: Lynne Werker 1. call to Order Manager, Arts & Community Connections Developer, Norond Group Committee Clerk Facilitator/consultant There being quorum present, Susan Hayes called the meeting to order at 3:02 pm. 2. Approval of May 13, 2014 Agenda It was moved and seconded. That the Agenda dated May 13, 2014 be adopted with the following addition: • Laity View Elementary School Art Wall request. CARRIED 3. Approval of the April 16, 2014 Meeting Minutes It was moved and seconded. That the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 19, 2014 be adopted with the amendment that Gaby Morrison was present at the meeting. Unfinished & New Business R14-010 R14-011 4.1 Hammond Area Plan Lisa Zosiak, Planner presented information about the Hammond planning that was endorsed by Council in March 2014 with feedback process up to and endorsement in spring 2015. A number of outreach initiatives in the public process including photos of neighbourhood character and boundaries and land use. Committee input should be made online to myhammond@mapleridge.ca. It was moved and seconded. That the topic of the Hammond Area Plan be added to the next agenda for the next meeting and that Lisa Zosiak be invited to a meeting in the fall to provide the Committee with an update. CARRIED 4.2 Work Plan Development -Plan for Public Art 2014-2018 Lynne Werker shared the draft Public Art Plan with the committee. Ms. Werker explained this document provides a snapshot of the research done. Committee members reviewed the draft work plan and suggested a number of changes and recommendations for the final draft that will be shared with the Department and Council. Mrs. Hayes will present the annual Committee update report to Council on May 27, 2014 with assistance from Ms. Chui. Committee members are encouraged to attend if available. After reviewing the framework report and discussions around potential priority sites, the Committee made the following recommendation. It was moved and seconded. That the Public Art Steering Committee proposes to Council for the 2014/2015 budget the following sites be investigated for public art locations. The round-about at Fern Crescent, then Albion Fairgrounds or a downtown site at 226th street and Lougheed Hwy as potential sites for the following budget year. CARRIED 4.3 Community Art -Laity View Elementary School Request Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee Minutes Page 2 of 3 Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee Regular Meeting Minutes -Mary 13, 2014 Brody Patterson and Claire Oneil from Laity View Elementary sent an email request for financial assistance on a proposed Art Wall for Memorial Peace Park around the bandstand area to decrease vandalism and graffiti. The Committee discussed and instructed Ms. Chui to respond appropriately and include the following points: • Students are welcome to access the community public art community grant program through an application process and to involve an experienced artist in the project. • Advise to change the timeline to be longer as not realistic to encompass an engagement process and to build partners/support. • Consider a project closer to school grounds or at the school and involve teachers, principal, parents and businesses in the project. Ms. Chui shared information from Youth Services and Parks that there are currently minimal graffiti issues in the Park area under consideration as there is a good program in place along with being in a high pedestrian traffic area. 5.
