4. Unfinished & New Business
4.1 Whonnock Lake -Environmental Public Art Opportunity Discussion
Guest: Sylvia Pendl, Parks Planner, Parks & Leisure Services
The Parks Planner reviewed details of the site plan for the Whonnock Lake area.
Elements of the plan include a focus on public safety and the construction of a new
playground and future trails. The parks planner gave an overview of distinct zones
within the area that may be appropriate for public art: water, forest, play ground.
Potential for a phased approach over the next 3-4 years working in collaboration with
Parks staff and community.
Protection of the physical environment of the site was discussed in terms of potential
public art installations. PASC will work in collaboration with Parks Planning to
develop the call for proposal. Next step for Manager, Art & Community Services and
Parks Planner to meet and work on draft and invite Parks Planner back at next
meeting to share updated design plans.
Note: The Parks Planner left the meeting at the end of this presentation.

artist for this project as requested by the applicant.
4.3 Alouette Valley Association Update
An update that the AVA will not be pursuing the project they presented to the
Committee in July. Instead they wish to donate the six cedar logs allocated for the
project from UBC Knapp Forest Research Centre but requested the Committee to
consider the original locations of the gateway project in future. Discussion ensued.
UBC Forest Research Centre has confirmed it will store the logs for 2-3 years, time for
them to cure before carving or being milled, for use at no cost.
Note: Councillor Judy Dueck entered the meeting at 4:15 p.m.
It was agreed to defer the decision of whether to accept the donation until the next
meeting to allow the Manager, Art & Community Services, to gather more information
on potential costs associated with the donation.
