4. Decision Items
4.1 Westview Sportfield
MOVED BY: Commissioner Gordon Robson
SECONDED BY: Commissioner Cheryl Ashlie
1) That a recommendation be forwarded to Council of the District of Maple Ridge and
to the School Board, School District No. 42 Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows that:
a. the general design of the Westview School Sportfield described in the 2006 01
05 memorandum on this subject be endorsed noting that the field lighting
system will incorporate appropriate shielding to minimize impacts on adjacent
neighbours and that sufficient area will be set aside on the perimeter of the
field to accommodate additional parking and washroom facilities should such
facilities be determined to be required in future,
b. their respective signing authorities be authorized to enter into an agreement for
the development and operation of the Westview School Artificial Turf
Sportfield equivalent to the agreement currently in place for Rotary Field at
the Samuel Robertson Secondary School
2) That a suitable field or fields be identified to accommodate the sport of rugby in
accordance with the field scheduling policy.
3) That further discussions be held with Sportfield user groups concerning the
contribution required of those groups to cover the cost of artificial turf replacement.

4.2 Community Festival Society Fee For Service Agreement

1) That the Community Festival Society Fee for Service agreement attached to the
2006 01 05 memorandum on this subject be extended to March 31, 2006 or until
such time as a service review is completed and the subsequent recommendations are
implemented.
2) That a Commission subcommittee be struck consisting of one Council member from
each Municipality and the General Manager of Community Development, Parks
and Recreation to complete a review of the system of support provided by the
Commission to Special Event organizers in the two communities including the
Community Festival Society Fee for Service Agreement; and further, that the
committee carry out the review in accordance with the terms of reference outlined
in the 2006 01 05 report on this subject with recommendations to be provided to the
Commission no later than the end of March, 2006.

4.3 Festival Support Sub-Committee
Shelley Jorde, Area Manager East, reported that 11 applications have been received.
Commissioners who volunteered to assist with the review process are: Jo Anne ten Brink,
Geordie Craig, Ian Brown, Kathie Ward and Deb Walters.

That a sub-committee comprised of three citizen at large members and one staff member be
formed to review Festival Funding applications and bring forward recommendations for
consideration by the Commission.

7. Staff Liaison Reports
7.1 Mike Murray asked commission members to resend their completed questionnaires.
7.2 David Boag updated status of the Cottonwood Park proposal. A plan will be brought
before the commission next month. He also confirmed the work order for the benches for
Thomas Haney has been initiated.
7.3 Shelley Jorde reported that $35,000 has been received to develop walking trails, maps,
brochures, etc., to promote active living.

That the Parks and Leisure Services Commission move into a Closed Meeting pursuant to 242
(a) personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a
position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by
the municipality;
