The Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Parks & Leisure Services
Commission, held in the Blaney Room at Maple Ridge Municipal Hall, 11925 Haney Place, Maple
Ridge, British Columbia, on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 7:00 pm.

There being a quorum present, the Chair called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

1. Adoption of the Agenda

Regular Meetings of July 12, 2007 be adopted.

3. Delegations
3.1 Parks & Leisure Services Logo Presentation
Kelly Swift, Director of Parks and Recreation Services gave a presentation on the
Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Parks and Leisure Services Visual Identity. The
Commission would like to see a line between Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. The
Commission discussed the proposed logo and would like to see; adjustments to the
name, changing the font options, provide the current Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows
logos against the proposed logo.
4. Decision Items
4.1 Parks & Leisure Services Logo -no resolution at this time, would like to see more
information before final approval.
4.2 2008 Business Plans
Mike Murray, Kelly Swift,Sue Wheeler and David Boag reviewed the Draft 2008
Business Plan PowerPoint Presentation including 2007 accomplishments, key
challenges, an environmental scan and 2008 highlights for each of their respective
Departments. David Boag reviewed the draft Capital Program Highlights for Pitt
Meadows and Maple Ridge.
Mayor Gordon Robson left the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
At the end of the presentation Mr. Murray posed the following key questionsKey
Questions:
1. Should we include an update to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Plan?

2. Should we consider going to referendum for parkland acquisitions in 2008
(sites like the Fraser River Front, Albion Expansion, etc)?
3. Should we consider going to referendum for any other facilities (Museum)?
4. Should we add an incremental operating package to the Museum now?
► Mike Murray advised the Commission that he has received a request
from the Maple Ridge Historic Society and the Pitt Meadows Heritage
group looking for incremental operating packages for retaining staff. The
total between the two organizations is $45,000. Mike has suggested
that the organizations' come before the Commission to make a
presentation.
5. What should we do about our aquatic facilities? Should we look at a Pitt
Meadows alternative to a full indoor pool?
6. Anything else the Commission would like us to add to the Business Plan?
It was moved and seconded
That the 2008-2012 Parks and Leisure Services Business Plan be endorsed noting
that finalization of the plan is subject to adoption by Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows
Municipal Councils.

5. Discussion Items
5.1 Maple Ridge Museum
Mike Murray advised the Commission that the Museum could possibly obtain two thirds of
their capital funding through grants but the operating funds to run the expanded Museum
would approximately be $300,000 per year.
The Commission agreed to invite the Historical Society to the Parks & Leisure Services
November regular meeting to review their needs in detail.
Christine Smith left the meeting at 8:59 p.m.
5.2 Smoking Ban on Sport Fields
Mike Murray advised the Commission of the School District's new legislation to ban
smoking on any school property and the principal is responsible for monitoring it. Mike
also advised that he has sent out notification to all groups that use the fields of this ruling
requesting their compliance.
Maureen Pelton left the meeting at 9:12 p.m.

242 (g) litigation or possible litigation affecting the municipality.
