CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3.ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2023-AAC-012 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Agricultural Advisory Committee meeting dated September 28, 2023 be adopted as circulated. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3.1 Agricultural Advisory Committee Minutes December 7, 2023 Page 2 of 3 4.DELEGATIONS4.1 Robert FullertonR.Fullerton, committee representative from the Fraser North Farmers Market Society,gave a presentation on starting a market garden in Maple Ridge. Topics included: hispersonal history with market gardening, lessons learned over 3 years of marketgardening, and advice and observations on the potential future of market gardening.Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion. 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1. Speaker Series A.Rieu, Staff Liaison, gave an update on the status of the speaker series for 2024.Committee members engaged in discussion about potential venues at which to hold theseries and agreed to revisit this topic in early 2024. 5.2. Farewell to Alec and Jeff A.Rieu, Staff Liaison, acknowledged the dedication and commitment to the twodeparting members of the committee, A. Biln and J. Laity who will not be returning in2024. Staff and Committee members conveyed an appreciation for their insight asfarmers the committee and wish them all the best. 6.LIAISON UPDATES 6.1. Staff Liaison A.Rieu, Staff Liaison, gave an update on multiple topics, including a recent meeting ofMetro Vancouver planners, the council endorsed Agricultural Land Commission, andpreliminary discussions of the 2024 AAC work plans. Staff also mentioned plans for twodelegations to give presentations to the Agricultural Advisory Committee in the newyear, including a presentation from UP Vertical Farming in Pitt Meadows and anappearance from a planner from the City of Pitt Meadows to discuss the newlyimplemented Agricultural Viability Strategy. 6.2. Council Liaison Councillor A. Yousef, Council Liaison, gave an update on the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC). 7.TASK FORCE UPDATE 7.1. Food Garden Contest A.Rieu, Staff Liaison, gave an update on the Food Garden Contest, saying that it is now inthe hands of third party judges and should be wrapped up before the end of the year.
