McLennan arrived 4:32 pm) 2.APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA R/2024-MACAI-001 It was moved and seconded That the February 15, 2024, Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness agenda be adopted as circulated. Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Minutes February 15, 2024 Page 2 of 5 3.ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES R/2024-MACAI-002 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness meeting dated November 16, 2023, be adopted as circulated. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 4.DELEGATIONS 4.1. Housing Needs ReportA. Grochowich provided an update of the City’s Housing Needs Report. Topics includedupdates to the BC housing legislation, key housing indicators (data provided by StatisticsCanada Census 2021): including population data, the makeup of households in the City,rental vacancy data, housing stock & core housing needs, as well as homelessness andadditional areas of need. Committee members engaged in discussion and asked questions. 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1. Welcome/Member IntroductionNew and returning members introduced themselves to the group. 5.2. Advisory Committee OverviewP. Frederick provided members with an overview of the Committee proceeding andfunctions. 5.3. Chair and Vice Chair Selection To appoint a Chair and Vice Chair to the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness for 2024. R/2024-MACAI-003 It was moved and seconded That Kevin Priebe be appointed as Chair of the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness for 2024. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY R/2024-MACAI-004 It was moved and seconded That Carolina Echeverri be appointed as Vice Chair of the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness for 2024. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Minutes February 15, 2024 Page 3 of 5 5.4. 2024 Meeting Schedule Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness members discussed and adopted the 2024 meeting schedule. R/2024-MACAI-005 It was moved and seconded That the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness meeting schedule be adopted as follows: Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 4:30 pm; Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 4:30 pm; Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 4:30 pm; Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 4:30 pm; and Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 4:30 pm. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 5.5. Accessibility and Inclusiveness Strategy Review P. Frederick provided background on the Accessibility and Inclusiveness strategy, adraft of which was circulated to members in January 2024. Staff provided an overviewof the content of the strategy review, including key principles, Acts and Policies guidingthe strategy review, engagement process, and engagement outcomes including builtenvironment, communication, education and governance. Committee membersengaged in discussion and asked questions. (Note: T. Cotroneo left the meeting at 5:23pm) R/2024-MACAI-006 It was moved and seconded That the Accessibility and Inclusiveness Strategy be forwarded to Council for their endorsement CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 5.6. Joint Accessibility Awareness Event (Age Friendly Community Planning Table) P. Frederick provided background on the Age Friendly Task group, including a proposedevent to have City of Maple Ridge Upper Management as well as Mayor and Councilparticipate in an event that would allow them the opportunity to experience accessibilitychallenges within the community. The proposed taskforce would partner with the SeniorsNetwork, and would meet during the day at meetings decided upon by the taskforce. K.McLennan and E. Foreman volunteered to participate on the taskforce. Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Minutes February 15, 2024 Page 4 of 5 R/2024-MACAI-007 It was moved and seconded That the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness form a Taskforce to partner with the Age-Friendly task group within the Seniors Network to collaborate on the age-friendly accessibility awareness event. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 5.7. Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Professional Network Conference P. Frederick provided MACAI members with information about the Rick Hansen FoundationAccessibility Professional Network Conference to take place on March 27, and 28, 2024 at theVancouver Convention Centre. R/2024-MACAI-008 It was moved and seconded That the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness allocate funds to allow for 2 members of the committee to attend the conference. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY (Note: Councillor Yousef left the meeting at 5:43pm) 6.LIAISON UPDATES 6.1. Staff LiaisonP. Frederick updated the committee about the ongoing engagement campaign for theproposed Hammond Recreation facility, and the upcoming Maple Ridge-Pitt MeadowsSenior Housing Summit on March 6, 2024. 6.2. Council Liaison – NIL 6.3. School District 42 Liaison - NIL 7.SUBCOMMITTEE AND TASK FORCE UPDATES 7.1. Formation of MACAI Awards Planning Task ForceP. Frederick recruited MACAI members to join the MACAI Awards Planning Task Force. 8.QUESTION PERIOD FOR THE PUBLIC –A.Roberge asked a follow up question about the Housing Needs Report, item 4.1, andwhen that information would become available to the public. 9.ROUNDTABLECommittee members provided updates and reports on issues and activities relating toaccessibility and inclusiveness in the community. This included an event at the ACT forInternational Women’s Day that is free to the public, as well as an upcoming focus group that Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Minutes February 15, 2024 Page 5 of 5 is being conducted with new immigrant members of the community as part of a research project ahead of Canadian Multiculturalism Day. 10. Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness Special Meeting Minutes March 21, 2024 Page 2 of 2 5.NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5.1. Community Sensory Garden Grant Application P.Frederick provided background information on the accessible, sensory based communitygarden and the opportunity to submit the “Local Community Accessibility Grant”application to the Social Planning and Research Council of B.C. (SPARC BC) to requestfunding for the community garden. The grant program was in conjunction with theAccessibility Plan requirement under the Accessible British Columbia Act. The communitygarden project had started and was located at 12072 Garden Street, on the corner of BrownAvenue and Garden Street and would include raised wheelchair accessible garden boxesand an accessible picnic table. Committee members asked questions and engaged indiscussion. R/2024-MACAI-010 It was moved and seconded That staff submit the “Local Community Accessibility Grant” application requesting up to $25,000 to the Social Planning and Research Council of B.C. (SPARC BC), for the creation of an accessible, sensory based community garden; and That the Chair of the Municipal Advisory Committee for Accessibility and Inclusivity sign a letter of support on behalf of the Committee to accompany the grant application.
