The Vice Chair, A. Sanchez, called the meeting to order and provided the land
acknowledgement.

4. DELEGATIONS
4.1. Non-JudgementaI Recovery Society
Alex Ward, representingthe Non-JudgementaI Recovery SocÌety, presented members
with a SociaI Services lnventory update outlining the available mentaI health, substance
use, and housing programs available in Maple Ridge, the surrounding area and around
British Columbia. An overview was provided of the work of the NonjudgementaI Recovery
Society, as well as a history of the methodotogies used to collect the data, which included
the use of artificiaI intelligence. A. Ward presented the outcomes, noting that there are a
totaI of 490 active programs listed in 2024 across the different service types and service
areas. SocialPolicyAdvisory Committee members asked questions and provided
feedback.
NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS
LIAISON UPDATES
6.1. Staff Liaison
T, Cotroneo gave an update on multiple parks initiatives including the upcoming Rock the
Block event at Blaney Hamlet Park on June 15, 2024, as well as Family Fishing Weekend
June 14-16. Staff further commented on the six active kids'clubs in the community as
wel[ as the waitlists to join those clubs.
6.2. CouncilLiaison
Counci[[or Dozie gave a brief update on the housing initiatives in the City, Bus Rapid
Transit, as we[[ as the zero carbon step code recommendations that came to Councilfrom
the Mayor's Climate Action Taskforce.
7. TASK FORCE UPDATE
7.1. Best Practices Research Taskforce
T. Cotroneo provided Committee members with an update on the Best Practices
Research Taskforce noting that there are four committees in three neighbouring
communities (Richmond, Surrey, and Vancouver) that are aligned with the SociaI Policy
Advisory Committee mandate. Staff proposed visiting those Committee meetings, so

Maple Ridge Sociat Policy Advisory Committee members can see what progress other
communities are mak¡ng and ask questions. Committee members will conduct further
research, create questlons, and set a schedute for the visits at the next taskforce meeting.
7.2. HistoricaI Practices Research Taskforce
Z. Romeo provided an update on the HistoricaI Practices Research Taskforce, providing
members with a list of previous actions completed by the Maple Ridge Social Policy
Advisory Committee, as well as the outcomes that came from these initiatives. Taskforce
members hope that by looking at the previous minutes and seeing what worked, what
didn't work, and how they worked, Committee members can determine what items they
would like to work on in the future.

policy topics.
