(2) Stud / Frame type of wall construction. (3) The top edge of insulation between the slab edge and foundation wall may be protected with a pressure treated preserved wood filler strip not more than 50 mm thick (typically 2" x 3" on edge above the insulation). (4) Rigid insulation in contact with the ground must be approved for such use. (5) Not applicable when heating elements or piping is located within a concrete topping on a suspended floor assembly or within an internally heated suspended slab. (6) Specify manufacturer and product name, e.g. Dow, SM. (7) These requirements may be modified where computer modeling or engineering principles are used to show that the heat loss of the building will not exceed that which would result from the use of the R Values in this table. (8) Where walls are constructed with a minimum R20 insulation, data confirms that R28 insulated attic and roof spaces maintain an optimum resistance to heat loss, therefore, R20 walls with R28 attic and roof space insulation is an acceptable equivalent. (9) Wall insulation must be installed within a dry wall cavity. Insulation is not to be placed within wall cavities that have standing water on the bottom plates. Any wet or damp insulation is to be removed from the wall cavities and replaced with new insulation. (10) Where water lines are installed in exterior walls, insulation shall be installed on the exterior (cold) side of the pipe.
