HomeMy WebLinkAboutCriminal Record Checks Requested for Nonpaid Volunteers - 5.03.pdfCriminal Record Checks - Non-paid Volunteers - 5.03.doc Date Printed: 2002-09-13 Page 1 of 1 Policy 5.03 Incorporated 12 September, 1874 CORPORATION OF THE DISTRICT OF MAPLE RIDGE TITLE: CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS REQUESTED FOR NON-PAID VOLUNTEERS -FEES POLICY NO. 5.03 APPROVAL DATE: July 5, 1993 POLICY STATEMENT: Non-profit organizations are to be subject to the usual fees and charges for police reports produced at their request; notwithstanding, their non-paid volunteers involved in unsupervised activities with the following vulnerable individuals may qualify for exemption: a. Children c. Mentally and/or physically challenged b. Senior citizens d. Crime Victims PURPOSE: Council wants to encourage criminal record investigations to stop “high risk” individuals from associating with those that are most vulnerable, but recognizes that there is a cost associated with providing that information. The purpose of this policy is to allow non-paid volunteers, working with “high risk” groups, to apply for a fee exemption. DEFINITIONS: The use being supported must be consistent with Municipal policies, plans, bylaws, codes and regulation. The taxation burden resulting from the waiver must be a justifiable expense to the taxpayers of the Municipality.
