PURPOSE: To ensure that all avenues are made available for volunteer development and experiences, and that volunteers are duly recognized for their efforts and commitment. DEFINITIONS: The act of volunteering is a form of recreation in that it is undertaken during leisure time and pursued as a personal choice activity. Volunteer involvement in leisure activities enriches the lives of members of our community and can provide a positive experience for volunteers themselves. Volunteers compliment and supplement the skills of staff, which enables us to enrich and extend our services. Volunteers can assist the Department to meet its service and program goals through the sharing of their skills, ideas, energy and time.
