The Minutes of the Municipal Council Meeting held on May 27, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in
the Council Chamber of the Municipal Hall, 11995 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, British
Columbia for the purpose of transacting regular Municipal business.

701 Fraser Valley Citizens Advisory Committee to the Correctional Service of
Canada
- Peter Hayes, Greg Fortnum, Area Director, Fraser Valley Community
Corrections, Joanna Moore, Parole Officer Supervisor, Maple Ridge Parole
Office
Mr. Hayes provided highlights of the objectives, the values and the role of
the Fraser Valley Citizens Advisory Committee to the Correctional Service of
Canada in the community.
Mr. Fortnum provided an update of the Citizens Advisory Committee's key
roles and activities in the community. He advised that a parole office has
been established in Maple Ridge to meet the needs of provincial inmates
and that an open house will be held in the Fall of this year.

- David Sheach, Executive Director, Shirley Wilson, Director of
Development, Art Solomon, Mentoring Coordinator, Maple Ridge/Pitt
Meadows
Mr. Sheach thanked the District of Maple Ridge for its support and
provided details of the work being done and the programs being run by the
Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows
area.
Mr. Solomon provided details on volunteer time donated to the organization
and the current waitlist and encouraged residents to volunteer as a big
sister or big brother.

1001.1 Maple Ridge Official Community Plan Amending Bylaw No. 6553-2008
To amend Schedule "B" of the Official Community Plan from Institutional,
Urban Residential and Park to Urban Residential and Institutional.
Second and third readings.
The Director of Planning advised that the roadway creating concern for
neighbouring residents has been in plans for some time and will create
better connectivity through the neighbourhood.
The General Manager, Public Works and Development Services advised
that there is a significant amount of financing in the capital budget over the
next 2 years to improve 203rd Street.

Staff report dated May 14, 2008 recommending that Maple Ridge Zone
Amending Bylaw No. 6543-2008 to permit the construction of a four -storey
residential apartment building and 4 residential townhouse units be given
first reading and be forwarded to Public Hearing.

on the final project design plans.

Staff report dated May 14, 2008 recommending that Maple Ridge Official
Community Plan Amending Bylaw No. 6572-2008 and Maple Ridge Zone
Amending Bylaw No. 6573-2008 to permit the expansion of Maple Ridge
Fire Hall No. 1 be given first reading and be forwarded to Public Hearing.
The Director of Planning explained the LEEDS standard which will be
achieved by this building citing a geothermal system, energy efficient
lighting and a special roof membrane as examples.

2. That in accordance with 879 of the Local Government Act
opportunity for early and on -going consultation has been
provided by way of posting Bylaw No. 6572-2008 on the
municipal website and requiring that the applicant host a
Development Information Meeting, and Council considers
it unnecessary to provide any further consultation
opportunities, except by way of holding a public hearing on
the bylaw;
3. That Bylaw No. 6572-2008 be considered in conjunction
with the Capital Expenditure Plan and Waste Management
Plan;
4. That it be confirmed that Bylaw No. 6572-2008 is
consistent with the Capital Expenditure Plan and Waste
Management Plan;
5. That Bylaw No. 6573-2008 be given first reading and be
forwarded to Public Hearing;
6. That road dedication along the east side of 227 Street not
be required until road upgrades are required; and

1400 MAYOR'S REPORT
Mayor Robson attended the Westminster Regiment Cadet Core event and a
fundraiser for the Zajac Ranch for Children.
1500 COUNCILLORS' REPORTS
Councillor Hogarth
Councillor Hogarth reminded all of the District open house on garden suites
to be held May 28 at municipal hall and the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion
event on June 8. He attended the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Municipal
Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues 5t" Annual Accessibility Awards
and will be attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities
conference.
Councillor Dueck
Councillor Dueck commended the local RCMP on the handling of an
incident involving a large stolen truck. She also advised that the School
District No. 42 Maintenance Department was given an Accessibility Award
and that all staff were honoured to receive such an award.
Councillor Daykin
Councillor Daykin attended the Laity View Scout Group meeting for the
award of Chief Scout badges. He also attended a Gaining Ground Seminar
on sustainability and green initiatives.
Councillor Stewart
Councillor Stewart spoke to the police incident on Lougheed Highway
involving a stolen truck. He attended a meeting held in Maple Ridge with
TransLink and Provincial representatives and an Agricultural Advisory
Committee meeting.
Councillor Speirs
Councillor Speirs reminded residents of the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion
event on June 8. He attended a Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory
Committee meeting and advised that three more such meetings were
scheduled over the summer. Councillor Speirs will be attending the
Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference. He also passed on his
thoughts and condolences to the family of Grace Merkley.

Councillor Kind
Councillor King attended a Metro Vancouver Board meeting, a Bicycle
Advisory Committee meeting, an Arts Council meeting and an Agricultural
Advisory Committee meeting. She also attended a presentation by a
representative from the City of Calgary speaking to Calgary's ten year plan
to eliminate homelessness. Councillor King advised that this week is Bike
to Work Week and she invited all to stop at a cycling commuters' coffee
stop being set up by the Bicycle Advisory Committee on the east side of the
Pitt River Bridge.
