CARRIED 600 PRESENTATIONS AT THE REQUEST OF COUNCIL 601 Presentation by Portrait Homes – Rob Grimm Mr. Grimm from Portrait Homes presented a plaque to Council and the District of Maple Ridge to acknowledge the award for Best Residential Community in Canada won by Portrait Homes for their Silver Ridge Development He spoke to the teamwork and cooperation of the municipality which facilitated the achievement of such an award by Portrait Homes. Council Minutes September 9, 2008 Page 3 of 8 700 DELEGATIONS 701 Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer -Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast -Nancy Neil, Community Support Volunteer, Maple Ridge Ridge/Pitt Meadows /CCS Unit Ms. Neil gave an overview of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast and highlighted what is involved in making the event a success. She informed all that the Tour de Coast will be coming to Maple Ridge on September 23 and encouraged residents to come out in support. 800 UNFINISHED BUSINESS – Nil 900 CORRESPONDEN CORRESPONDENCE CE – Nil 1000 BY BY-LAWS – Nil COMMITTEE REPORTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS 1100 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE Minutes – Nil Public Works and Development Services 1101 DP/039/08, 22648 Dewdney Trunk Road Staff report dated August 29, 2008 recommending that the Corporate Officer be authorized to sign and seal DP/039/08 in support of a two storey commercial building under the C-3 (Town Centre Commercial) zone. R/08-380 DP/039/08 Sign and seal It was moved and seconded That the Corporate Officer be auth authorized to sign and seal orized DP/039/08 respecting property located at 22648 Dewdney Trunk Road. CARRIED Council Minutes September 9, 2008 Page 4 of 8 The Director of Planning provided a summary of the progress which has been made in terms of new dwelling units being built and planned for in the downtown Maple Ridge area. 1102 DP/077/08, 22977 116 Avenue Staff report dated August 28, 2008 recommending that the Corporate Officer be authorized to sign and seal DP/077/08 to permit a 44 unit townhouse development. R/08-381 DP/077/08 Sign and seal It was moved and seconded That the Corporate Officer be authorized to sign and seal DP/077/08 respecting property located at 22977 116 Avenue. CARRIED 1103 Local Area Service -12851, 12841, 12850, 12844 Barnsdale Street Staff report dated August 11, 2008 recommending the preparation of a bylaw to establish Local Area Service to provide sanitary sewer service to 4 lots in the 12800 block of Barnsdale Street and that the capital program be amended to provide for the construction of the sanitary sewer service. R/08-382 Local Area Service It was moved and seconded That staff be authorized to prepare a bylaw to establish a Local Area Service to provide sanitary sewer service to 4 lots in the 12800 Block of Barnsdale Street; and further That the capital program be amended to provide for the construction of the sanitary sewer service. CARRIED Council Minutes September 9, 2008 Page 5 of 8 1104 Local Area Service – 12300 and 12400 Blocks of 202 Street Staff report dated August 11, 2008 recommending the preparation of a bylaw to establish Local Area Service to provide sanitary sewer service to 15 lots in the 12300 and 12400 blocks of 202 Street and that the capital program be amended to provide for the construction of the sanitary sewer service. R/08-383 Local Area Service It was moved and seconded That staff be authorized to prepare a bylaw to establish a Local Area Service to provide sanitary sewer service to 15 lots in the 12300 and 12400 Blocks of 202 Street; and further That the capital program be amended to provide for the construction of the sanitary sewer service. CARRIED 1105 St. Patrick’s School Walk Walk-a-thon, Use of Streets Staff report dated August 19, 2008 recommending the use of municipal streets be authorized for the St. Patrick’s School Walk-a-thon on Friday, September 26, 2008. R/08-384 Use of Streets St. Patrick’s School It was moved and seconded Walk-A-Thon That the use of municipal streets be authorized for the St. Patrick’s School Walk Walk-a-thon on Friday, September 26, 2008, provided the conditio conditions outlined in Schedule ‘A’ attached to ns the staff report dated August 19, 2008 are met. CARRIED 1106 Louis Leather Shop 8 8th th Annual Fundraising Event, Use of Streets Staff report dated August 25, 2008 recommending the use of municipal streets be authorized for the Louis Leather Shop 8th Annual Fundraising Event on Sunday, October 5, 2008. CARRIED Financial and Corporate Services (including Fire and Police) 1131 Adjustments t to the 2008 Collector’s Roll o Staff report dated August 19, 2008 submitting information on changes to the 2008 Collector’s Roll through the issuance of Supplementary Roll 05/2008. 1132 2008 Community Grants Staff report dated August 29, 2008 recommending that the Golden Ears Winter Club be provided with a grant of $2,500 for the 2009 BC Men’s Curling Championship. R/08-386 2008 Grants Golden Ears It was moved and seconded Winter Club That the Golden Ears Winter Club be provided with a grant of $2,500 for the 2009 BC Men’s Curling Championship. CARRIED Community Development and Recreation Service – Nil Correspondence – Nil Other Committee Issues – Nil Council Minutes September 9, 2008 Page 7 of 8 1200 STAFF REPORTS – Nil 1300 RELEASE OF ITEMS FROM CLOSED COUNCIL Economic Advisory Commission appointments of Mr. Mike Shardlow and Ms. Nicole Breuls as members-at-large (from the August 25, 2008 Closed Council Meeting) 1400 MAYOR’S REPORT Mayor Robson advised that new bus routes for Maple Ridge had taken effect last week and that these changes include an increase in bus service to Braid Station. He attended a RCMP/Mayors Consultative Forum and the opening of the Seniors National Triples Lawn Bowling event 1500 COUNCILLORS’ REPORTS Councillor King Councillor King attended an Agricultural Advisory Committee meeting. She advised that the ACT has a new program for Fall and encouraged residents to attend. Councillor Speirs Councillor Speirs attended a Community Heritage Commission meeting, a heritage workshop sponsored by the BC Heritage Branch and the transit exchange opening. He advised that a Metro Vancouver Public Hearing will be held for Jackson Farm on September 17. He encouraged the public to attend ‘BreastFest’, an event to raise cancer awareness. Councillor Stewart Councillor Stewart attended a Crime Free Housing Meeting. He reminded all of the annual Terry Fox Run. He also announced that sockeye salmon have once again returned to Alouette Lake. Councillor Hogarth Councillor Hogarth noted that the Union of British Columbia Municipalities convention was being held in September which he will be attending. He put forward condolences to the family of Mr. Tim Wittenberg who recently passed away. Council Minutes September 9, 2008 Page 8 of 8 Councillor Dueck Councillor Dueck attended a Social Planning Advisory Committee meeting. She advised that the Ridge Meadows Association for Community Living will be having a 50 year celebration. She encouraged participation in the upcoming Terry Fox Run. Councillor Dueck also advised that the Metro Vancouver Public Hearing will be held on September 17 in Vancouver and will include six Maple Ridge properties. Councillor Daykin Councillor Daykin attended the Maple Ridge Summer Kids Reading Program and participated in the opening of the Seniors National Triples Lawn Bowling event. He also attended a meeting of the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society. 1600 OTHER MATTERS DEEMED EXPEDIENT – Nil 1700 NOTICES OF MOTION AND MATTERS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS – Nil 1800 QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC Ken Ken asked questions pertaining to bus service in Maple Ridge.
