For information only Co Community Development and Recreation Service mmunity -Nil Correspondence – Nil Other Committee Issues – Nil 1200 STAFF REPORTS – Nil 1300 RELEASE OF ITEMS FROM CLOSED COUNCIL – Nil Council Minutes November 24, 2009 Page 13 of 15 1400 MAYOR’S REPORT Mayor Daykin attended the opening of a new multi-cultural services centre at the Family Education and Support Centre and an appreciation luncheon for the volunteers of the Cythera House Thrift Store. He also attended a meeting of the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association and a Metro Vancouver Solid Waste Dialogue forum. He encouraged all residents to think about purchasing gifts with less packaging, consume less and recycle and reuse more during the Christmas Season. Mayor Daykin reminded residents that the Christmas Farmer’s Market will be held on November 5th to coincide with the Santa Claus Parade and the Christmas Festival in the Park. 1500 COUNCILLORS’ REPORTS Councillor Ashlie Councillor Ashlie participated in the Remembrance Day ceremony and attended a meeting of the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association. She reminded residents that the 2010 Olympic Torch run will come through Maple Ridge on February 8. Councillor Ashlie also attended the Maple Ridge Community Foundation Awards and a Community Action for Seniors' Independence (“CASI”) meeting. She spoke to the fundraising efforts of the Maple Ridge Chapter of the Soroptimist Foundation. Councillor Speirs Councillor Speirs attend the Remembrance Day ceremony. He attended a Metro Vancouver Solid Waste presentation, the Family and Education Support Centre’s opening of its multi-cultural centre and meetings of the Lower Mainland Local Government Association and the Municipal Insurance Association. Councillor Speirs reminded residents of a conference on November 28 being hosted by the Community Heritage Commission and the annual sale on November 29 by the Whonnock Beavers at the Whonnock Lake Centre. Councillor Dueck Councillor Dueck attended an Arts Council meeting and the grand opening of the Maple Heights townhouse complex. Councillor Morden Councillor Morden attended the Remembrance Day ceremony, a Chamber of Commerce meeting and a Community Action for Seniors' Independence (“CASI”) meeting. He reminded residents of several upcoming community events including the opening night for the play “Rent” at Garibaldi Secondary School, the Garibaldi Art Show at the ACT, a Chamber of Commerce November Business Mixer, the November 27 start for Operation Council Minutes November 24, 2009 Page 14 of 15 Red Nose and the 7th Annual Country Christmas Concert hosted by Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services. Councillor Hogarth Councillor Hogarth attended the Remembrance Day ceremony. He also attended a Metro Vancouver Solid Waste presentation and a Maple Ridge Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues meeting. He encouraged residents to volunteer for various organizations within the municipality. Councillor King Councillor King attended the Remembrance Day ceremony. She also attended meetings of the Agricultural Advisory Committee and the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Bicycle Advisory Committee. She spoke to a donation made on behalf of the DaCosta family to the Maple Ridge Public Library through the Frank Cowen Foundation, Cowen’s Read-A-Thon Program. 1600 OTHER MATTERS DEEMED EXPEDIENT – Nil 1700 NOTIC NOTICES OF MOTION ES AND MATTERS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS – Nil 1800 QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC Betty von Hardenberg on Ms. von Hardenberg asked whether amendments to the regional context statement pertaining to the Jackson Farm issue will trigger a public hearing. She also asked what the exact wording of the amendment of the regional context statement will be and whether background documents relating to the request will also be forwarded to Metro Vancouver and if so, when the information will be sent. Mayor Daykin advised that staff will provide him with information pertaining to the triggering of a Public Hearing. The Director of Planning clarified that the amendment going to Metro Vancouver is not a text amendment but a mapping amendment which requires recognition by Metro Vancouver. She also advised on the documents and information which will be provided to Metro Vancouver. The Manager of Legislative Services advised that documents forwarded to Metro Vancouver will be available to the public.
