CARRIED 403 Minutes of the Development Agreements Committee Meeting of July 16 and 22, 2015 R/2015-310 It was moved and seconded That the minutes of the Development Agreements Committee Meeting of July 16 and 22 22, 2015 be received. , CARRIED 500 PRESENTATIONS AT THE REQUEST OF COUNCIL 502 Cliff Avenue Camp Update • Superintendent Dave Fleugel, Ridge-Meadows RCMP Detachment • Sergeant Casey Baker, Ridge-Meadows RCMP Detachment Superintendent Fleugel introduced Sergeant Baker as the officer who is dealing directly with the Cliff Avenue camp. Council Minutes July 28, 2015 Page 3 of 17 Sergeant Baker outlined what is currently being done by the RCMP at the camp, advising on an increase in patrols in the downtown area and on how residents can help the RCMP to identify items which may have been stolen. He emphasized that the issue is very significant and of great importance to the RCMP. 600 DELEGATIONS 601 Chamber of Commerce Servicing Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Update • Terry Becker, President • Andrea Madden, Executive Director Ms. Becker and Ms. Madden gave a PowerPoint presentation providing information on the Chamber of Commerce, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. The presentation outlined the organization’s vision and mission statements, policies and upcoming events. 602 Ridge Meadows Youth Diversion Program Update • Gurinder Mann, Interim Executive Director Mr. Mann provided an update on the Ridge Meadows Youth Diversion Program and spoke to its positive influence on youth at risk. He asked for the continued support of the City of Maple Ridge. Note: Item 1402 was dealt with following Item 602. Ltd., that the Financial Plan be amended to increase the project budget and that the Corporate Officer be authorized to execute the contract. The General Manager of Public Works and Development provided clarification on the road improvements. Councillor Shymkiw excused himself from the discussion of Item 1402. 1402 Ridge Meadows Youth Diversion Program Letter dated June 30, 2015 from Bart R. Findlay, President, Ridge Meadows Youth Justice and Advocacy Association requesting approval of three years of funding at the level previously committed to by the City of Maple Ridge. R/2015-339 It was moved and seconded That the request of Ridge Meadows Youth & Justice Advocacy Association for a 3 3-year commitment of funding be supported provided Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services enters into an agreement with the City of Maple Ridge to provide youth diversion services. CARRIED Council Minutes July 28, 2015 Page 17 of 17 1500 NOTICES OF MOTION AND MATTERS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS – Nil 1600 QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC Lea Leah Talson lson Ms. Talson posed several questions pertaining to the camp on Cliff Avenue. She asked what type of information is being collected by the outreach workers, whether this information will be shared with the public and where additional funding will be spent. Mayor Read advised on funding for the outreach workers and what is being done to connect individuals with services and housing. She also advised that workers have been tasked to use a vulnerability assessment tool by BC Housing and that a communications strategy is being developed to provide updates to the public. Ms. Talson asked whether reports will be received on a regular basis and what is expected to happen to individuals in the camp who are involved in criminal activity and/or do not wish to have housing.
