Introduction to Emergency Social Services (Available online) Explore both the Emergency Social Services (ESS) program in British Columbia as well as personal preparedness for ESS responders. Level One Emergency Social Services (Available online) This course supports community ESS teams or other designated service providers by preparing new responders to respond to a level one ESS event. Introduction to Reception Centres (Available online) Explore services and functions of a reception centre and gain the knowledge and skills required to work in a one. Reception Centre Applied Training Apply Reception Centre skills and practices in a mentored functional exercise. Introduction to Group Lodging (Available online) Learn how to adapt facilities to shelter-style accommodation for people displaced during a disaster. Explore operations tasks and gain the knowledge and skills required to work in a group lodging facility. Group Lodging Applied Training Practice key basic GL tasks by responding to a mock emergency affecting a community. Registration and Referrals Learn the process for registering evacuees and providing them with referrals for food, clothing and lodging. Basic interviewing skills will also be explored. Resource Acquisition Explore the responsibilities for acquiring and managing food, clothing and lodging resources for evacuees. Learn how to identify essential resources, set up agreements with suppliers prior to an emergency, and access, distribute and track these resources during an emergency. Public Safety Lifeline Leadership Learn the fundamental components of effective leadership and gain skills that can be applied to any Public Safety Lifeline leadership role. Emergency Social Services Site Management Learn the roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Social Services Management Team and perform relevant activities and processes. Managing Volunteer Programs Explore the fundamentals of volunteer management, including recruiting, managing and retaining volunteers. Emergency Social Services Director Learn the day-to-day and emergency response roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Social Services Director. Following an overview of the ESS program, explore the organizational structure and functions of the ESS team as well as the relationships between ESS and other emergency management organizations.
