Why not take an active role in your community and ask motorists to slow down. The Neighbourhood Traffic Safety Campaign is a neighbourhood program established by residents to inform motorists that driving fast is not acceptable on their local neighbourhood street. This educational tool is designed to encourage motorists to reduce speeds when travelling on your local neighbourhood street. Although these signs are not enforceable, this message from a neighbourhood to motorists is considered advantageous. The posting of signs is an awareness and educational tool for all motorists as well as residents. HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK? Residents on a block must agree to post lawn signs calling for motorists to slow down. By doing so, residents must also agree to slow down. In order to achieve a strong neighbourhood impact, it is recommended that the signs be placed on every second property within a block for a period of one to two weeks. The copious number of signs and the short period in which the signs are installed achieves an immediate impact. WHAT'S INVOLVED? To participate in this campaign, residents are required to appoint a Neighbourhood Captain who will act on behalf of the neighbourhood. The Captain will attain the required neighbourhood support for the campaign by way of a petition (pledge form). Upon completion of the petition, the Captain will provide the forms to the Transportation Technologist at the City of Maple Ridge Engineering Department. The City will then evaluate the request and the Captain will be contacted and advised of sign availability and the required deposit. The Captain must agree to liaise with the City in distributing the lawn signs. For further information relating to the program, contact the Engineering Department at: City of Maple Ridge 11995 Haney Place Maple Ridge, BC V2X 6A9 Tel: 604-467-7339 Fax: 604-467-7425 e-mail: engineering@mapleridge.ca web: www.mapleridge.ca Neighbourhood Traffic Safety Campaign Pledge Form WHEREAS Maple Ridge is a community that values safety; AND WHEREAS the impact of growing traffic issues, particularly speeding traffic raises safety concerns; AND WHEREAS the impact of speeding vehicles erode the quality of life for residents, AND WHEREAS I am a motorist or resident who regularly uses residential streets within our neighbourhood.
