The permit holder must provide and install an isolating valve and backflow preventer. (Available at local rental outlets) **A COPY OF THE TEST CERTIFICATE FOR THE BACKFLOW PREVENTER DEVICE IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. The City of Maple Ridge water distribution system contains chlorine. The permit holder is responsible for the de-chlorination of any water discharged to sensitive areas such as but not limited to creeks, rivers, and the storm sewer system. De-chlorination is normally achieved with the use of Calcium Thiosulfate or Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C). The applicant is responsible for obtaining any permits necessary from the Ministry of Environment when discharging water to sensitive areas. Repair costs will be charged to the applicant if the fire hydrant is damaged during the operation of this permit. The City is not responsible for any property damage or general public damages during the use of this permit. INFORMATION ON THE USE OF FIRE HYDRANTS: 1. Open fire hydrant fully to allow isolating valve to control flow. 2. Close fire hydrant down slowly and do not over tighten. 3. Do not put cap on hydrant until it is fully drained.
