January 5, 2015
Mayor’s Homelessness Solutions Task Force
Council reviewed a report presented by Kelly Swift, General Manager: Community Development,
Parks & Recreation Services that outlines the recommendation that the Mayor’s Homelessness
Solutions Task Force be established to conduct an assessment of social service delivery funding
models and to develop recommendations that will enhance community health for Council’s con-
sideration.
Mayor Read noted that this is the first step in a process that will see appointments made from
community experts. These appointments and the development of terms of reference to allow the
Task Force to deal with a number of emerging issues ensure that both the issues of homeless-
ness and an increased sense of safety in the community are dealt with.
The recommendation stated that Mayor Read, Councillor Masse and Councillor Robson be ap-
pointed as the Council liaisons to the Task Force.
Council passed the recommendation.

Bell would be the Council liaisons to the Task Force.
Council passed the recommendation.
Remedial Action for the Demolition of Derelict/Unsafe Property
Liz Holitzki, Director of Licences, Permits & Bylaws, gave a verbal overview of a report that details
the history and condition of a property located at 22315 122 Street that has fallen into a state
of disrepair and now presents a hazard to the community. The report recommends that Council
initiate the process whereby the property owner has 30 days to demolish the building after which
the City can step in, perform the demolition and charge the associated costs to the property.
Council thanked Ms. Holitzki and the Maple Ridge Fire Department for the thorough report and
passed the recommendation in the report.

Frank Quinn, General Manager: Public Works & Development Services provided Council with a
brief overview of the current situation relating to Metro Vancouver’s Green Waste Ban. The infor-
mation on the City website will be updated to reflect the full information within a few days. He in-
dicated that a brochure was under development in conjunction with the Ridge Meadows Recy-
cling Society that would allow the public to receive the full picture. That information, when com-
pleted will also be published in the local newspaper as part of the regular Maple Ridge This
Month update.
Legal Overview

Indemnification/Liability and Freedom of Information issues. The presentation was done by Ray
Young from the City’s legal firm of Young Anderson Barristers & Solicitors. The verbal overview
was supported by a document that was published as part of the agenda.
This general briefing is part of the orientation provided to new Council members to allow them to
learn some of the specific aspects of their service on Council. Council thanked Mr. Young for his
