INFORMED: Spring Chipping Program
Chip Away at Your Yard Waste
The Spring Brush Chipping program is underway and chipping has already started for the
west side.
Set-out deadline was Tuesday, March 29 for residents who live WEST of 224 Street
and is Monday, April 11 for residents living EAST of 224 Street.
The program includes pick up and disposal of tree and shrub branches up to a total
volume of 3 cubic metres (1 metre x 1 metre x 3 metres, roughly 3 feet x 3 feet x 9 feet) –
chippers are instructed to spend no more than 20 minutes at each household. Branches
may be up to 6 inches in diameter. No construction waste, building materials, stumps,
leaves, branches with thorns (e.g. rose bushes, blackberries), vines (including willow
branches), bamboo, root balls or household waste will be permitted.
If you have more volume, there is a green waste area at the Maple Ridge Transfer Station
located next to the Recycling Depot at 10092 236 Street, Maple Ridge. Green waste
tipping fees will apply.
In an effort to stay on schedule and in fairness to the majority of participants, no late
set-outs or over-sized piles will be accepted. For more information, visit rmrecycling.org or
phone Ridge Meadows Recycling at 604-463-5545.
ENGAGED: Volunteering Matters

Volunteering in the community is a great way to meet new
people, learn new skills and get involved in your community.

and demonstrate leadership as you build your resume for
post-secondary education or
employment.

volunteer journey is by visiting
mrpmparksandleisure.

can connect with volunteer
opportunities with Parks
& Leisure services or with
other organizations in the
community through Volunteer

The website has a three-step process that will allow you to
identify areas of interest, create your volunteer profi le and set

SPOTLIGHT ON: Earth Day 2016
The 2016 Festival Season begins – mark your calendar
The annual Earth Day Celebration in Maple Ridge kicks off at
10:00 am on Saturday, April 23 at Memorial Peace Park, with
the theme “ENERGY!” We are looking forward to highlighting
energy in its many forms – from renewable energy to what
inspires and recharges us in our day-to-day lives.
Earth Day favourites from past years will be back, including
HUB’s Cycle Recycle Free Bike Draw, lots of kids’ crafts, electric
vehicles courtesy of VEVA, roving entertainers and fl ash mobs
and, of course, the popular Family Freecycle, where gently used
books, toys and clothes will be available for free to the public
at the Greg Moore Youth Centre.
This is also the fi rst appearance of the Haney Farmers
Market for 2016. They are an important part of the Earth
Day celebration not only because supporting local farmers
is great for the environment, it just tastes great. The fresh
fruits and vegetables, local baking and preserves are an
amazing addition to your family’s dinner table. We all love to
get reacquainted with the vendors who will serve us from May
through to October.
Come on out with the whole family and celebrate Earth Day
in Maple Ridge. Get involved, get engaged and get educated
on some of the amazing initiatives in our community to help
us live a more sustainable life. Follow the “Celebrate Earth
Day in Maple Ridge” Facebook page at facebook.com/
mapleridgeearthday or the Twitter feed at @mrearthday for
