INFORMED: Fire Prevention Week
October 9 to 15 is Fire Prevention Week in Maple Ridge
One of the most important messages the Maple Ridge Fire
Department wants to communicate is that smoke alarms are a
critical part of your family’s safety. In addition to ensuring the
batteries are changed and existing smoke alarms are tested
they are asking an important question. Is it time for your smoke
alarm to retire? Sparky reminds everyone that smoke alarms
need to be replaced every 10 years, and demonstrates how to
fi nd out the age of an alarm. This year’s Fire Prevention Week
campaign is, “Don’t Wait - Check the Date! Replace Smoke
Alarms Every 10 Years.”
Fire Prevention Week ends on Saturday, October 15 with
an Open House at Fire Hall No. 1, located at 22708 Brown
Avenue, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. It’s a great opportunity
to bring the kids to see the equipment our fi refi ghters use for
fi re suppression and rescue. There’s even a small obstacle
course for young kids who aspire to be a fi refi ghter one day.
Bring your sons and daughters; in fact bring the whole family,
for this great FREE Open House. Look for details at
www.mapleridge.ca/430.
