Get Educated and Informed on this Important Issue
The City would like to celebrate the beauty of Maple Ridge
and the joy of the holiday season with images from our young
citizens. We are pleased to announce the fi rst ever ‘Maple
Ridge Christmas Card Design Contest’ which is open to Maple
Ridge students from Grades 1 to 7. The fi nished art should be
on standard letter size paper measured 8.5 by 11 inches, and
can be in any media – crayons, colour pencils, water colours or
markers. We’d love it if the artist signed the art with their fi rst
name only, and for parents or teachers to provide the full name
and contact information in pencil on the back of the artwork so
we can contact the winners. The art needs to be shipped to us
fl at (no folding) so it reproduces well.
Mayor Read, along with Chief Administrative Offi cer Ted Swabey
and his team will select the winning images that will be printed
up and used by Mayor and Council for their 2016 Christmas
greetings. The images will also be featured in online posts and
print ads over the holiday season. The theme is ‘A Maple Ridge
Christmas’ and we are looking forward to seeing the artwork
produced by our young citizens.
All entries must be
received by 4:00 pm
on Monday, November
21 either by mail or in
person at City Hall’s
reception desk which
is located at 11995
Haney Place, Maple
Ridge, BC V2X 6A9.
Entry envelopes should be marked ‘Christmas Card Design
Contest.’ Schools can submit bulk entries ensuring that contact
information for the student and teacher is included on the
back of each piece of art so we can connect with the winners.
For more information on the Maple Ridge Christmas Card
Design Contest, please contact Fred Armstrong, Manager of
Corporate Communications at farmstrong@mapleridge.ca or by
phone at 604-467-7452.
We look forward to seeing your masterpieces!

INFORMED: November 2016
INFORMED: Santa Claus Is
Coming To Town
Saturday, December 3
Maple Ridge Celebrates
Christmas in the Park
Mark your calendars, because
Santa Claus is coming to
town on Saturday, December
3 and he’s doing it in style.
The festival runs from 4:00
to 8:00 pm with the parade
starting at 6:00 pm sharp.
The Peace Tree at the
corner of 224 Street and Haney Place becomes the largest
Christmas tree in the Fraser Valley and when Santa magically
lights the tree it marks the start of the parade.
There’s so much to do – Memorial Peace Park, in fact all of
downtown Maple Ridge is decorated with thousands of lights
and the traditional red bells that signal that the holidays
are upon us. There will be music at the bandstand, cookies,
popcorn and hot chocolate, a chance to visit with Santa and
drop off your Christmas wish list in his special mailbox.
This annual festival is a delight for kids of all ages and it is
made possible by an army of volunteers. If you’d like to be
one of ‘Santa’s Elves’ and lend your help, or if you’d like more
information about the Festival and parade go online to
www.mapleridgechristmasfestival.com.
