Public consultation is a pivotal component of this review process. Following a public open house and questionnaire in the Fall of 2016, the City has prepared a new draft Soil Deposit Bylaw. We wish to continue our consultation with citizens, business owners and other stakeholders. A community Open House is being held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm (drop in anytime) in the Council Chambers foyer. All citizens are invited and encouraged to attend and learn more about the current bylaw, concerns that have been raised to date and provide comments on how to improve the Soil Deposit Bylaw. A questionnaire for public feedback will be made available at the Open House and online at mapleridge.ca/152. If you can’t make the meeting you can pick up a survey at the Planning department front counter at City Hall. The survey will remain open until the beginning of March. The feedback that is received will assist staff in preparing a fi nal Soil Deposit Bylaw for adoption. ENGAGED: Community Facilities Conversation Your Comments and Suggestions Can Help Shape Our Future In December of 2016 the ‘Community Facilities Conversation’ kicked off with the development of a series of webpages at mapleridge.ca/1676 that outline eight different proposals for future parks, recreation and cultural facilities that were identifi ed in the Parks Master Plan that was adopted in 2009. There are ‘pop up displays’ at the south entrance of the Business Tower by Service BC, the Maple Ridge Public Library, the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre and Planet Ice with information boards and survey forms so you can share your views on these proposals. The same survey can be fi lled out online at surveymonkey.com/r/Facility_Talk_Open_Feedback. We encourage you to take a look at the printable information sheets and videos and get connected with this project. 3000 invitations have been mailed to randomly selected households to participate in a survey that will seek public input and comments of the proposed projects, priorities for the development of parks, recreation and culture facilities and discuss various funding alternatives. If your household receives one of these letters we would like to encourage you to take a few moments from your busy day to share your opinions. In the upcoming months there will be more pop up displays, face- to-face surveys, online interactions, an open house and community café to share the preliminary information. We hope you will be part of the Community Facilities Conversation and help shape the future of Maple Ridge. ENGAGED: Let’s Talk Employment Lands Expanding Our Local Economy Takes Land The City is exploring opportunities to change the land use designation for certain properties in two areas of Maple Ridge as a way to create more local employment opportunities. There is an ad in this edition of The News with the maps of the proposed areas to rezone. A community Open House is being held on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm (drop in anytime) in the Council Chambers foyer. Based on our Commercial & Industrial Strategy, the City will need 170-230 acres of additional industrial land by 2040. The City is looking to speak with citizens, business owners and other stakeholders about the proposed changes. The proposed redesignation of the identifi ed properties will guide future development applications and will not change currently permitted uses or zoning. All citizens are encouraged to attend and learn more about the proposed land use redesignations and to provide their comments.
