SPOTLIGHT ON: Earth Day 2017 Mark Your Calendar for the Start of the 2017 Festival Season The annual Earth Day Celebration in Maple Ridge kicks off at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 22 at Memorial Peace Park, with the theme“BACK TO NATURE!” We are looking forward to celebrating the bounty of nature that surrounds us in Maple Ridge and encouraging families to get out from behind screens and spend more face time with nature. Earth Day favourites from past years will be back, includingHUB’s Cycle Recycle Free Bike Draw, lots of kids’ crafts, electric vehicles courtesy of VEVA, roving entertainers and ash mobs and, of course, the popular Family Freecycle, wheregently used books, toys and clothes will be available free to the public at the Greg Moore Youth Centre. This year the organizers have arranged for a Food Truck Festival on site that will feature some of your favourite food on four wheels! This is also the rst appearance of the Haney Farmers Market for 2017. They are an important part of the Earth Day celebration not only because supporting local farmers is great for the environment, it just tastes great. The fresh fruits and vegetables, local baking and preserves are an amazing addition to your family’s dinner table. We all love to get reacquainted with the vendors who will serve us from May through to October. Come on out with the whole family and celebrate Earth Day in Maple Ridge. Get involved, get engaged and get educated on some of the amazing initiatives in our community to help us live a more sustainable life.
