Council Workshop meetings will begin at 6:00 pm and Public Hearings and Council meetings will begin at 7:00 pm. All meetings will be held in Council Chambers. INFORMED: Spring Chipping Program It’s Chipping Time Folks are busy tidying up their yards and gardens in preparation for all that nice weather coming our way. In partnership with the City, Ridge Meadows Recycling Society administers the Brush Chipping Program for Maple Ridge residents. This program is a great alternative to burning brush and the Maple Ridge Fire Department strongly encourages citizens to participate to keep our air clean and our community safe. No pre-booking is necessary, simply place branches at the roadside adjacent to your property by the set-out deadline for your area. The collection for addresses west of 224 Street has been completed and as of Monday, May 1collection has begun for Maple Ridge residents who live east of 224 Street. The program includes pick up and disposal of tree & shrub branches up to a total volume of 3 cubic metres (3 feet x 3 feet x 9 feet). Branches may be up to 150mm (6 inches) in diameter. No construction waste, building materials, stumps, leaves, branches with thorns (e.g. rose bushes, blackberries), vines (including willow branches), bamboo, root balls, or household waste will be permitted. Please note: items placed at the curb not covered by the program or excess volume of material will not be picked up. The purpose of this program is to provide an alternative to burning this material. NO LATE SET-OUTS OR OVERSIZED PILES WILL BE ACCEPTED! For more information, phone Ridge Meadows Recycling at 604-463-5545, or visit mapleridge.ca/357. INFORMED: Emergency Preparedness Week Are You, And Your Family, Prepared For An Emergency? Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 7 to 13 2017 in Canada as a way to highlight the importance of individuals and families being prepared for an emergency or natural disaster. While we sometimes focus on things like earthquake preparedness, the reality is you need to take the very same steps to ensure that you are safe in the event of a re, giant windstorm, power outage or ice storm. People and families, who make a plan, are able to bounce back from an emergency situation faster. Do you have the supplies you need to ensure that your family has food and water for a minimum of 72 hours? Where will you go to the bathroom if the water and sewer system are not functioning? Do you have the medications you need for you and your family? What will you do with your pets? Do you have food for them and a means of keeping them safe? What will you do if you and your family are separated in an emergency? We are here to help you make your plan. Volunteers from the City’s Emergency Social Services team will be manning the Emergency Service booth co-located with the City of Maple Ridge booth at this weekend’s Home Show. There’s information on how you can build your personal supply kit, grab and go kits and build a communications plan for your family to handle any emergency. The Emergency Program team will also be setting up a display outside City Hall on Tuesday, May 9 and running a special education session in Council Chambers on Thursday, May 11 titled ‘Preparing Your Pet for a Disaster.’ Look for more information on how to sign up for this program on the City’s Facebook page. There is a comprehensive section on emergency preparedness on the City website at mapleridge.ca/459. Explore this section so you can make your plan during Emergency Preparedness Week!
