INFORMED: It’s Construction Season
Sign Up for Notifi cations. The Cure for Road Rage
There’s an old joke that in Alberta
there are two seasons, winter and
construction season. Here in Maple
Ridge we have a larger weather window
to do work on our roads, but the reality
is that the time from May to the end
of October is the prime time for us to
do road works and other construction
relating to the maintenance of
our water, sewer and storm water
management systems. Sometimes the
decision to complete work is made
fi rst thing in the morning based on
the weather conditions, so the notice
period is short.
These works can impact your commute,
and while we try to mitigate the
impacts by asking our contractors and City crews to schedule
work to reduce impacts during the rush hour; sometimes
emergency repairs are required. We
have a system to keep everyone
informed on our City website at
mapleridge.ca.
You can even be more proactive and
sign up for the ‘Notify Me’ service
on the City website and you will get
direct notifi cations to your email or
smartphone of upcoming construction
work. If you like the City Facebook
page or follow us on Twitter you will
also get these notices. The folks at
the local radio stations follow us
and retweet our notifi cations and
broadcast them on air!
Thanks in advance for your patience.
We’ve done a lot of big projects in the
past few years and while it’s a bit inconvenient when the work
is happening, the fi nal results are worth it!
ENGAGED: Have You Voted Yet?
The Deadline to Vote is Friday, May 29
In mid-March the ballot packages started arriving in the mailboxes of area residents
who are on the voters list. If you still have not received your ballot package you can go to
election.bc.ca/ovr and follow the instructions to sign up, or arrange for a new ballot. If
you do not have access to the internet you can call their toll free number at 1-800-661-
8683 and they will assist you with your request.
There is a great Frequent Asked Question section on the Elections BC website, and for
those of you who are visual learners, there’s a great video on the ElectionsBConline
YouTube Channel that shows you, step by step, how to use the ballot package to record
your vote.
It’s very simple to vote. Make your voice heard.
Haney Farmers Market has fast
become one of the favourite
destinations of area ‘foodies’
looking for incredible local
produce to add to their dinner
plate. Last week the eleventh
season launched with music,
carrot cake and thousands of your
friends and neighbours rubbing
elbows on a beautiful sunny
Saturday.
The “Cheeses Crust” truck will
be visiting this weekend to
complement the offerings of the
popular “Hunger Management”
truck. The warm spring means
that there are a lot of great local
veggies available and in season.
Paul Surridge is the musical entertainment at the Café Corner
located at the centre of the Market. It’s a great place to sit
and relax and have a coffee or tea and sample some of the
incredible baked treats available from the vendors. From a
croissant to pies and tarts, there’s a choice for you.
So call up a friend and make a date to meet at the Haney
Farmers Market in the heart of Maple Ridge. The Market runs
from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday mornings at Memorial
Peace Park on 224 Street just south of Dewdney Trunk Road.
Haney Farmers Market is looking for people interested in
volunteering or busking at the Market. Get in touch with Eileen
at 604-467-7433 or email hfminfo@haneyfarmersmarket.org.
