INFORMED: Tax Time Claim Your Home Owner Grant Online You should have received your 2017 Property Tax Notice in the mail. The most important message we can highlight is that you can claim your Home Owner Grant online. Claiming your Home Owner Grant online opens up many alternatives to paying in person at City Hall. Claim your Home Owner Grant online at mapleridge.ca by clicking on the Online Services link. Select the ‘Home Owner Grant Application’ option and follow the instructions to claim your grant. You can also set up a ‘My Maple Ridge’ account which gives you 24/7 access to your tax information and has the option for you to sign up for paperless tax noti cation as well as track your payment history. It’s a great way to save time. Once you claim your Home Owner Grant you can pay the balance owing at most nancial institutions either in person or by using online or telephone banking. If you decide not to pay through your bank you have the option to drop off your Home Owner Grant and cheque at the secure drop box located at the west entrance of City Hall near the Economic Development Of ce as another way to avoid any line up. The box is cleared daily and will be emptied at midnight on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. For those of you who prefer to make payments in person, our of ce is open until 8:00 pm on Thursday evenings throughout the month of June. Take a few moments to read through the materials that came with your Tax Notice and learn how you can avoid any line- ups. This year we are celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday with a celebration that will span a number of months starting this weekend with Skate Park Poetry on June 18, continuing with National Aboriginal Day on Saturday, June 24 and nishing with the biggest July 1 event ever. We’ve created a special web page at mapleridge.ca/1723 that highlights each of the events that are happening under the Canada 150 celebration. On Saturday, July 1 our Canada Day celebration titled ‘My Canada, My Maple Ridge’ runs from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm at Memorial Peace Park. The Haney Farmers Market will anchor the west side of the park and the stage in front of the ACT Arts Centre will mark the eastern boundary of the celebration. Visitors will have three stages to choose from with a variety of music, dance and spoken word presentations. There’s a special Community BBQ hosted by Maple Ridge’s re ghters and a host of other great activities and displays. There will be food trucks and a special protocol ceremony in the middle of the day where we will have the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #88 Colour Guard lead the RCMP, Maple Ridge Fire ghters and our Federal, Provincial and Local elected of cials for a special greeting on behalf of the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations, the singing of our national anthem, the raising of the Canadian Flag and some very special presentations to local youth leaders and artists. Bring your lawn chair and a blanket and spend the day with your friends and neighbours as we celebrate this land, this special place – Canada. INFORMED: Canada Day is Saturday, July 1 Join the Canada 150 Celebration in Maple Ridge INFORMED: Celebrate Aboriginal Day Mark Your Calendar for a Special Celebration In recognition of National Aboriginal Day, the Eighth Annual Aboriginal Day Celebration will be held at Memorial Peace Park on Saturday, June 24 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. This event will feature the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of our First Nations, Inuit and Metis people. Traditional dance, music and ceremonial blessings, a Bannock cook-off, the Haney Farmer’s Market, community displays, Aboriginal games, crafts and interactive activities will bring people of all ages together for this wonderful celebration. INFORMED: Construction Season is Here Get Construction Alerts Directly to Your Email or Phone In a few weeks school will end and we will be getting a number of important paving and infrastructure projects underway. We know that these projects can have an impact on your daily routine so we want to encourage you to sign up for project alerts so our summer construction will have a minimal impact on your life. In addition to these projects there will be a number of watermain and road upgrades around the community. Some of these projects can only be done when the weather cooperates and scheduling takes place close to the work commencing. We appreciate your patience as we adapt our schedule to target our resources for maximum effectiveness.
