INFORMED: Canada Day is Saturday, July 1
Join the Canada 150 Celebration in Maple Ridge
This year we are celebrating Canada’s 150 Birthday with a
celebration that runs from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm in the
heart of Maple Ridge at Memorial Peace Park. We’ve created
a special web page at mapleridge.ca/1723 that has the
most up-to-date schedule for the Canada 150 celebration.
The Haney Farmers Market will anchor the west side of the
park and the stage in front of the ACT Arts Centre will mark
the eastern boundary of the celebration. Visitors will have
three stages to choose from with a variety of music, dance
and spoken word presentations. There’s a special Community
BBQ hosted by Maple Ridge re ghters and the Kiwanis
Club runs from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The re ghters will even be
setting up a ‘spray park’ for the kids in the afternoon in the
southwest corner of the park.
There will be food trucks and a special protocol ceremony
in the middle of the day where the Royal Canadian Legion
Branch #88 Colour Guard lead the RCMP, Maple Ridge
re ghters and our Federal, Provincial and local elected
of cials for a special greeting on behalf of the Kwantlen
and Katzie First Nations, the singing of our national anthem,
the raising of the Canadian Flag and some very special
presentations to local youth leaders and artists.
The day will end on the mainstage at the ACT Arts Centre with
performances by the John Welsh Band and Ranj Singh all
culminating in a Happy Birthday singalong at 7:00 pm. Bring
your lawn chair, blanket, sunscreen and spend the day with
your friends and neighbours as we celebrate this land, this
special place – Canada.

ENGAGED: Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes
Making Healthy Living Fun and Accessible for All
Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes offer parents
and caregivers new ideas on how
to play with their kids. We supply
the necessary games and sports
equipment and provide unlimited
access and opportunity for families
to get outdoors and engage with
other families through active
play. Playboxes help to enhance
environments and remove some
of the barriers to access for active
outdoor play, as well as foster social connectedness. These
Playboxes are new to Maple Ridge and were made possible by the
generous support of Scope BC, Canadian Heritage and the City of
Maple Ridge. The box itself contains sports equipment that is free
for community use at the parks. For more information about how
to gain access to a Playbox email playbox@mapleridge.ca.
In addition to the one in Memorial Peace Park, Maple Ridge
Park now hosts a second Playbox,
complemented with the Play
Nights in the Park program (July
12-August 30; 6:30 pm - 8:00
pm). The success of this project will
depend on community involvement.
Residents of Maple Ridge and
local organizations can play a
role by helping monitor the boxes,
contributing to the purchase of new
equipment through nancial or in-
kind support and hosting a Play Night in the Park program to help
encourage active play with children. If you or your organization
is interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Jen
Baillie, Children’s Programmer at jbaillie@mapleridge.ca or
604-466-4339.

clicking on the Online Services link. Select the ‘Home Owner

your grant. You can also set up a ‘My Maple Ridge’ account

the option for you to sign up for paperless tax noti cation as

time. Once you claim your Home Owner Grant you can pay
the balance owing at most nancial institutions either in
person or by using online or telephone banking.
If you decide not to pay through your bank you have the
option to drop off your Home Owner Grant and cheque at
the secure drop box located at the west entrance of City

to avoid any line up. The box is cleared daily and will be
emptied at midnight on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. If you have any
questions about your 2017 Tax Notice please contact us at
