INFORMED: 2017 Country Fest A Maple Ridge Tradition Since 1902 Maple Ridge’s Country Fest is one of the longest running ‘Country Fairs’ in BC and Canada. This weekend, Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30, you are invited to the Albion Fairgrounds for a ton of family fun. The best part is that admission is FREE and parking is only $2 with a complimentary shuttle available. Saturday’s events run from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm with live music, agricultural demos & judging, amusement rides, animal shows, petting zoo and there’s even a beer garden for the grown up visitors. Sunday runs from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Go to mrpmcountryfest.com for all the activities and event schedules. INVOLVED: 2017 Caribbean Festival Two Days of FREE Fun at the Albion Fairgrounds Council Meeting Schedule Mayor and Council encourage everyone to attend these important public meetings. It’s your chance to see how public policy is debated and enacted. Council will be taking their summer break in August. The Meeting schedule resumes in September. Tuesday, September 5 6:00 pm, Council Workshop - Blaney Room Tuesday, September 12 7:00 pm, Council Meeting - Council Chambers Tuesday, September 19 6:00 pm, Council Workshop - Blaney Room 7:00 pm, Public Hearing followed by Council Meeting - Council Chambers September 25 through 29 Council members will be attending Union of BC Municipalities Meetings Agendas & Minutes Agendas for these meetings are posted online the Friday before the meeting date. Council Meeting Videos If you are unable to attend a Council Meeting or Public Hearing meeting you can now watch these meetings on your computer 24/7. The entire unedited meetings are posted two to three days after the meeting. The video is indexed to the agenda package so that you can watch them in their entirety or click through by agenda item. In addition, Council meetings are now broadcast on the internet via live streaming using the same technology used for our live budget Q&A sessions. ENGAGED: Fall 2017 Program Guide Get a Sneak Peek Online Next Week The team has been hard at work preparing the Fall 2017 Parks, Recreation & Culture Program Guide and they will be ready for the ‘digital’ reveal with an online sneak peek the rst week of August with hard copies of the guide arriving from our printer on Thursday, August 10. The following week, on August 15, online registration will begin and two days later on August 17 we will start accepting in-person and phone registrations for the Fall 2017 programs. We will be sending out posts on the City’s social media channels to remind everyone of the deadlines, but we thought we’d share this early notice due to the many requests we’ve been getting. The 17th annual Caribbean Festival is being held once again at the Albion Fairgrounds! The event will run for two days, Saturday, August 5 from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Sunday, August 6 from Noon to 8:30 pm. By popular demand the organizers are excited to announce the return of the highly acclaimed group “Hotel Califormia” the original tribute to the ”Eagles”. The 2-hour concert on Saturday evening will open with 12 year old singing sensation Laura Webb from Maple Ridge. Two large stages with continuous music provided by 16 live bands from Toronto and the Lower Mainland’s Caribbean community, featuring Reggae, Calypso, Salsa and Soca music and much more. Many dedicated volunteers are working hard to make the Maple Ridge Caribbean Festival a favourite tourist attraction for theBC Day long weekend for visitors and locals alike. Over 100 entertainers will showcase the music and culture of their islands. In addition to the music, make sure you enhance the experience by visiting the wide variety of food vendors, offering authentic Caribbean foods. The event also boasts 40-50street vendors displaying their goods at the Caribbean open air market and a large kid zone with rides, face painting and a number of other activities planned for our small festival goers. This great family event is FREE for the whole family. “Let’s get together and feel alright” this August long weekend to celebrate multiculturalism with the music and foods of the Caribbean Islands.
