Conversation - Survey Update Presentation
Kelly Swift, General Manager: Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services introduced Jennifer
Wilson who is the consultant for the Community Facilities Conversation. Ms. Wilson gave
a PowerPoint presentation that provided Council with information on the following
topics:
Key elements of the consultation
Purpose of the survey and process involved in preparing for the survey through to
the completion of the survey
Details pertaining to the online survey
Examples of how feedback will be gathered through the online survey
Timeline on the process
Children and Youth Programming Presentation

David Speers provided Council with an update on the various children’s recreation
programs available in Maple Ridge.
Brian Patel provided Council with an update on the recreation programs offered to
Maple Ridge youth. Mr. Patel showed Council a video presentation showcasing the Greg
Moore Youth Centre, including its 15 year celebration.
Metro Vancouver Sewerage Extension Provisions
David Pollock, Municipal Engineer reviewed the Metro Vancouver Sewerage Extension
Provisions report with Council.
Snow Clearing Update
Frank Quinn, General Manager: Public Works & Development Services introduced this
item to Council.
Walter Oleschak, Superintendent of Roads & Fleet provided Council with updates on
the following items:
Training completed by the Operations Centre that relates to snow events.
Staff scheduling and work completed by Operations staff to deal with the recent
heavy snowfall event on New Year’s Eve.
Priority and secondary routes.
Challenges in coping with heavy snowfalls and ice resulting from snowfall.
2017 Property Assessment and Taxation
Trevor Thompson, Manager of Financial Planning provided Council with information on
the 2017 property assessments and the resulting property tax levels. Mr. Thompson
outlined the relationship between property assessments and the property tax rates and
addressed concerns of the impact of higher property assessments on taxes.
Mr. Thompson noted that property owners have until January 31, 2017 to file
assessment appeals.
