Kelly Swift, General Manager: Parks, Recreation & Culture introduced this item and
welcomed Lorraine Copas, Executive Director of Social Planning and Research Council
of BC (SPARC BC).
Ms. Copas made a presentation to Council which provided details on the following
topics:
SPARC BC areas of Focus
What is Community Social Planning
Tools and Approaches/Frameworks
The Role of Local Governments
Social Planning
Shawn Matthewson, Social Planning Analyst made a presentation that reviewed the
projects the City is working on related to Social Planning initiatives (including available
programs and related City policies). Ms. Matthewson also reviewed how the City
addresses social planning.
Council directed staff to proceed with the direction identified in the 2017 Business Plan
for Social Planning including filling the two proposed staff positions.
