Kelly Swift, GM: Parks, Recreation & Culture introduced Dave Speers and provided a
brief background on this item.
Dave Speers, Recreation Coordinator Health & Wellness, gave a presentation to Council
that included a brief overview of the key points from the Sport & Physical Activity
Strategy, current outcomes achieved to date and next steps. Mr. Speers noted that the
strategy is a road map for Parks, Recreation & Culture and community sport
organizations to move towards a healthy and active community in a cohesive manner.
Mr. Speers advised Council that they were recently awarded a Fraser Health & BC
Alliance for Healthy Living grant in the amount of $30,000 to help support the work of
the Sports Strategy.
Backyard Chickens - Discussion Paper
Siobhan Murphy, Planner II introduced this item and provided background information
on backyard chickens which included a summarized timeline, current zoning, which
municipalities have or have not permitted backyard chickens in residential areas,
advantages and potential issues to raising backyard chickens and the proposed process
moving forward.

Council directed staff, in consultation with the Agricultural Advisory Committee to develop a
backyard chickens program as identified in the Backyard Chickens - Discussion Paper staff
report.
Home Based Business Review Follow-up and
Proposed Consultation Plans
Lino Siracusa, Manager of Economic Development introduced this item to Council.
Amanda Grochowich, Planner gave a presentation to Council which included background
information, possible regulatory changes and the proposed consultation program.
Ms. Grochowich reviewed the recommendation with Council.
Council endorsed the Proposed Consultation Program.
Donation Bins within the City of Maple Ridge
Council held a discussion regarding donation bins within the City of Maple Ridge and
passed a resolution to maintain the current practice of requiring organizations providing
clothing donation bins to locate bins on private properties.
Outdoor Pool - Reconsideration of a Motion
According to Maple Ridge Council Procedure
Bylaw 6472-2007 Part 17
Reconsideration of the following motions from the staff report dated July 4, 2017 providing
options to pursue or not pursue an outdoor pool.
Council held a discussion regarding the outdoor pool and then directed staff to move
forward with identifying potential locations for an outdoor pool, including any viable City
owned lands and other locations. Full cost implications (land and completion of the outdoor
pool) will be provided by staff and reported back to Council.
